Show State Denies Bid For Higher Automobile Insurance Rates State Insurance Commissioner A. E. Buckwell this week signed an order flatly denying increased rates sought by rating bureaus for member companies operating in Utah. The higher grades were organi-nally organi-nally scheduled to have gone into effect January 22. After the attorney general rule them illegal il-legal they were to have gone into effect last Thursday. Instead, Mr. Buckwell signed the order denying the increases requested or any other change in the rate structure. The order said the need for higher rates had not been demonstrated. dem-onstrated. Several hundred companies which subscribe to the Utah rate published by the National Automobile Auto-mobile Underwriters Association which sought a 1.7 per cent increase in-crease in property damage rates and by the National Bureau of Casualty Underwriters, which sought a 13.8 per cent gain in liability insurance rates. The two rating bureaus set the rates for firms which do about 30 per cent of the automobile insurance business in the state. |
