Show Midvale Man Takes First" Moose in Utah The Utah State Department of Fish and Game this week noted thta final tabulations from the state's moose hunt showed a 70 per cent hunter success ratio. The hunt was concluded Oct. 5 in the two Uinta Mountain hunting units where moose hunts were set for the first time this year by the Board of Big Game Control. The first moose ever to be taken from Utah on a hunting license was killed by John E. Plattner fo Midvale. The animal had an antler spread of 40 in. Top trophy honors went to Jack Way of Ogden with a 52 in.' antler spread. The limited hunt for ten of the monarchs, the largest big game animal in North America, was set last spring by the board in an effort to balance the sex ratio of the small herd, thus leading to better reproduction and future fu-ture hunting. Department biologists currently current-ly estimate the size of the herd at 70 to. 80 animals. |
