Show S. L. Attorney Cains United Fund Position The thirty-third annual meeting meet-ing of the Community Welfare Council was held recently in the Union Building, University of Utah campus. Miss Marie Thompson, Thomp-son, president of the Council for the 1957-58 year, presided at the luncheon meeting. The Community Com-munity Welfare Council is one of the thirty agencies of the Salt Lake Area United Fund. One of the highlights of the day's meeting was an address by W. Cleon Skousen, Salt Lake's Chief of Police, on "Some Gaps in Community Planning." H. Wright Volker, prominent Salt Lake City attorney, was elected president of the Council for the year 1958-59 with Mrs. Abe Bernstein, housewife, as vice president. William F. Koch was re-elected to the position of I treasurer. In addition to these, I there were six new board mem-1 mem-1 bers elected and seven members I to serve as members at large on I the nominating committee. I The board report was delivered I by Miss Marie Thompson, in I which she stated that "The road 1 traveled in Salt Lake area community com-munity planning is a long one, 1 with markers back to 1904 when J social agencies joined together in the Salt Lake Charities Association As-sociation to promote harmony and prevent duplication of work. In 1950 further reorganization of the Council of Social Agencies Agen-cies resulted in the formation of the Community Welfare Council. "As the year closes we welcome Miss Eva Hancock as our new director. She has experience in Council work, and by training and background is well qualified quali-fied to carry the executive duties du-ties of the Council." Rev. Frank Brusatto offered the invocation and the benedic-' benedic-' tion was given by Albert Quist, Executive Director of the Salt Lake Area United Fund. |
