Show Page Two FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1958 THE SALT LAKE TIMES Morgan Demo Women Hold Initial Meeting By Lavina S. Chettle The Morgan County Demo-cratic Women of Region II held their organizational Oct. meeting 1, 1958 at the new County Courthouse of Morgan County. The regional officers present were: Reta Kearl, chairwoman; Freda Wood, vice chairwoman; Iva Critchley, secretary, and Lil-lian Wheelwright, chairwoman of South Davis, Federated Demo-cratic Women's Clubs. Celeste Durrant, county chair-woman of Morgan County wel-comed a large and enthusiastic group. Reta Kearl, chairwoman of Re-gion II spoke on the value of organizing Democratic women. A question and answer discussion was held on registration and election laws of Utah. Delia Loveridge, president of the Utah Federated Democratic Women's Clubs urged those pres- ent to take an active part in gov- ernment affairs and stressed that only by acquainting themselves with the issues would better gov-ernment prevail in Utah and throughout the nation. Since women have 52 per cent of the vote and control 85 per cent of the wealth of the nation, they should have an equal per-centage of the responsibility of government, she stated. She urged the women to teach their children the essentials of good government in the home, so that they would be in a posi-- j tion, at the proper time, to take their rightful places in commun-ity and governmental affairs. A discussion was held on various methods in getting out the vote. Election of officers was held vith the following results: Doro-thy Richins, chairwoman; Jessie "!reager, vice-chairwoma- n; Rica WaUer, secretary; Sara Scott, treasurer; Eva Brower, historian; Louise Waldron, committee-woma- n; Fern Palmer, Melva Heiner.
