Kennedy (D-Mass.) (D-Mass.) was the most popular candidate can-didate for the party's presidential presiden-tial nomination in 1960. Grant Macfarlane Jr., reporting report-ing on the poll this week said delegates and visitors to the convention con-vention were given straw ballots on which the names of a number of possible candidates had been printed. Voters were asked to indicate their first, second and third choices. Sen. Kennedy received both the greatest number of total votes but also the greatest number num-ber of first choice votes. As a money raising project voters were charged a "registration "registra-tion fee" to participate in the poll. .The registration entitled them to participate in a contest in which an automobile was siven away. The "lucky" winner drove away in a 1931 Chevrolet. The car was decorated with various slogans.
