The Kxcnrslon to Castella Thousands at Garfield Reach The Brave at Wagner's Wag-ner's Workingmen at Calder's. j ' i i For the first time in several years there was no organized celebration of the Glorious Fourth in this city today, but it has never been more generally observed. Salt Lake : had just gathered herself between the sheets last night when the crack of firearms, the pop of firecrackers and the roar of bombs began, and was kept up until the dawn, when bauds and drum corps marched around town. Castello Springs. In the morning Held's band and a large party of excursionists, filling thirteen cars, left, for Castello Springs, and at Provo they were joined by at least 1000 people. A special to The T imes says that the excursionists excur-sionists are having a way-up time, and that everything is passing off pleasantly. Garfield Beach. Of course this popular resort come in for the liou's share of the patronage. The first train out took a big crowd, and the attendance attend-ance this afternoon Is enormous. What, with bathing, boating, the Casino, etc., there is amusement for all. At about 5 p. m., will occur the rcgett.of the Salt Lake boat club, and some spirited contests may be expected. At Wagners. The Tusoaroras are having a great time at Waguer's today. Powers, the big chief, is out at Park City making a big talk to the braves. but there are plenty of iarriors left. The Tuscas will hold a meeting meet-ing at the Continental hotel this evening, at rt o'ciock, when speeches will be made by J. M. Denny, William Newton, E. D. Hoge, C. K Glenn, C. W. Hall, W. C. Hall, Mayor Basktn, I. H. Lewis aud Judge Powers. At Liberty Park. The shady cooks at Liberty park are occUf-picd occUf-picd today by scores of families, and this spot seems to be the gathering point for all picnickers. At Sinoot'i Park. The honorably discharged soldiers and sailors of the United States army and navy are having a good time at Smoot's park this afternoon. The festivities will be followed fol-lowed this evening with a dance. At Calder's. The sons of toil are celebrating at Calder's park this afternoon, the affair being under the auspices of the Federated trades. Olsen's band is in attendance, and L. C. Fry has been selected to deliver the oration. After these exercises, there will be baseball, foot races, quoit pitching, etc. . |
