Show SOLID FOR THE SPOILS. The local committee of the Third party held a meeting last evening and resolved that they had a fighting chance to corral the county offices again this fall, and therefore that they would make the fight. We are pleased to note that the old issues did not enter into the considfira- tion of the matter. It is no longer a question of holding Liberals together for the good of American institutions, because everybody admits that that necessity is over. ; It is merely a question of holding on to the spoils of office. That is a live issue to every man who draws a salary, and to the large army of expectants who hope to draw one. The spoils keep a certain class of men together in any party, but for the great mass a moral sentiment is necessary. The great and vital moral sentiment that means peace and prosperity for Utah is today represented by Republicanism, Republi-canism, and so we predict that this rally of the old party in the interest of the spoils of office will not succeed. The people of Salt Lake county are dealing today with more vital issues than the question of who shall draw a few public salaries and who shall lick postage stamps in the court house. Utah lives in a new day, and her face is toward the morning. |
