Durborrow's World' Fair Bill to Be Taken l"p ou Saturday President Harrison Har-rison Vetoes a Bill. Washinbtox, Aug. 3. The peace committee com-mittee of ten members of the house on the V"orld's fair matter met this morning, and as the hours progressed the statements of those w ho caiue out of the conference was that an agreement will probably be reached. About 1 o'clock the following basis was agreed to: The house is to reconsider the action on the Sundry civil bill, by which it tgreed to the senate amendment appropriating $5,000,000 for the World's fair a::d the bill will be seat back to the conference confer-ence with the understanding that it shall be eliminated from the bill. The Durborrow World's fair bill shall be taken up and shall b) voted on Saturday. The amount to be carried by the bill, however, is to be reduced from 5,000,000 to $2,500,000 and make it a - direct gift. The committee simply submits this agreement agree-ment to the caucus aud the members are not bound to vote iu favor of the Durborrow li:l. They merely agree if the caucus adopts the proposition, not to filibuster against it. TEXAS rKLEGA.TION MAD. WA.-Hi.NiiTox, Aug. 3. The democratic cauc us is in session. The meeting has been one of dissension: The Texas delegation left the hall, refusing to be bound by an agreement which had not yet been read to them. Many other members followed their example, taking the ground that the de-cision de-cision of the caucus has no bindi effect. VETOED Br THE PRESIDENT Washington, Aug. 3. The president vetoed ve-toed the senate bill amending the act of March 3, lt?ST, conferring on the court of chums jurisdiction in contested land patent cases. THE HOC'SE ADJOURNS. Washington, Aug. 3. The house after filibustering for two hours on the World's fair bill, adjourned. ll.ilmaii introduced during the session a resolution to extend the current sundry civil appropriations to a blank date. Accompanying Accom-panying it were two resolutions by Dockery, one for cloture rule on Ilolmau's resolution and the other to give to it a parliamentary status. Kilgore of Texas, says he is in favor of filibustering .against the World's fair compromise bill, aud the probability of the World's fair getting any appropriation now looks small. BUSINESS IN THE SENATE. Washington, Aug. 4. The following senate sen-ate bills were taken from the calendar and passed: To establish a sub-port of entry at Helena, Mont. ; extending for two years' time the construction of the Big Horn & Southern railroad through the Crow Indian reservation. After other business, including the appointment ap-pointment of a committee on the Piukerton detective force, and a short executive session, ses-sion, the senate adjourned. |
