In jail is a man who was caught murdering a traveler for his money, and the people decided that they could not wait until the law had run its course, and determined tO lake the matter mat-ter in their own hands and lynch the fellow. The iberlfl received warning of the intended in-tended lynching and collected four deputies and announced his determination to guard the .jail nt all hazards. At 1J o'clock ut night a summons came for him to open the doors and give up the prisoner or the jail would be burned down. As the structure struc-ture is wooden, this would have been an easy matter, and the sheriff decided that be bad belter succumb to force than endanger en-danger Ihe lives of the oilier inmates, lie accordingly made the announcement to his deputies and scut one to inform the lender of the mob that be could have the prisoner. During the parley the sheriff and all his deputies went outside the jail, when suddenly sud-denly the door was slanted and boiled. A girl about 19 years old appeared at one of the upper windows and told the astonished crowd that they could not have t lie man She wus Susan Dorder, daughter of the sheriff, she -aid that she was nut afraid of the mob and would shoot the tlrst man who attempted to approach the place to set It ou lire. She would not let her father back into the house and told them thai they could not accomplish anything by remaining.
