Show A NEW FREIGHT AGENT. Mr. Bavbooek of the Rio firande Western Makes Somn Changes. General Freight Agent Babeoek has 9ct. his broom to work around the Rio Grande West-em West-em offices, and they are scarcely recognizable, recogniza-ble, as everything has been changed. The offlca that has been occupied by the passenger passen-ger agent, Mr. Bennett, is now occupied by Mr. Babeoek and his cotorle ef assistants. "It is a fact," said Mr. Babeoek, "that Mr. Brown has left the office. I had no idea that he was going and certainly never gave him any Intimation to that effect. He said noth Ing to me, either. He presented his resignation resig-nation to Mr. Bennett. So far as Mr. Bennett Ben-nett is concerded and so far as I know he is to stay here as the general passenger and ticket agent. There are always changes being made in railroad chides, sweeping ones at times that include everybody from the president down, and sometimes they come very summarily, too. I have not only seen them but have been included in them. My coming here to take this position is n matter that I never dreamt of until Sunday, the 27th of December, when Colonel Dodge informed me In Denver that I was to report here for duty on the 1st of January. Changes are bound to be made, you know, and I would bo silly to refuse an offer because be-cause somebody else had to go. "I am here to do the fair thing by everyone every-one and propose tod" it. All I ask myself is to be given a fair show. I have no war to make on anyone, and if a war is instituted insti-tuted it must iie started by some one else. I have many friends in this place and some enemies. When 1 make an enemy he is a Strang one, and 1 have several such In this city who would like b sec me doomed. Of course that la unfortunate, lint it can't be helped, and, besides, 1 don't think much of a man who doesn't make enemies ene-mies sometimes. "1 have many changes to make in the policy of my department, but it will take time to doit. We are becoming important factors in I'tah now and we will wield a big influence by and by, and this means broadening broad-ening out. I have no idea what the road is going to do about building and as a matter of fact I don't think the subject has been discussed as yet. I w as so totally Unprepared Unpre-pared for thi office by any intimation that I will tie some little time straightening 01 my office, but by and by I will be all tixrd. I do not propose to make a star chamber of It when I am fixed, but to keep it open to every one who has business or who is seeking seek-ing information. - - - . . |
