At the semiannual semi-annual meeting of tho New York presbytery pres-bytery toilay, the prosscntinp; committee commit-tee appointed to prepare the papers in the trial of Prcf. The charges in brief are as follows: fol-lows: Disbelief in the Bible as the only true source of Divine authority; disbelief in the verbal inspiration and inerrancy of the scriptures; disbelief in the immediate sancti&cation at death of the souls of those dying in the faith. Professor Briggs moved that his case be taken up the first thing in the afternoon, after-noon, but tho motion was defeated. The indictment bases the charges against Professor Briggs solely on the the inaugural address, because it is the most deliberate aud emphatic expression expres-sion of his doctrine. The report goes on to say that it was decided by the committee that' it 'is neither necessary nor advisable to embrace em-brace in the list of ohanges all the doctrinal doc-trinal errors contained in the inaugural address, and while its teachings respecting re-specting miracles, the original condition condi-tion of man, natural sin, race redemption, redemp-tion, and Dr. Briggs' scheme of biblical theological in general are not in harmony har-mony with tho scriptures and calculated calculat-ed to weaken confidence in the word of God, and to encourage presumption on the clemency of God. ii was decided that it was best to confine attention to a few departures from the teachings of the scriptures whioh are fundamental to the entire discussion. Notice of appeal to the synod from the decision was then made. Dr. Alexander's resolution anil preamble pre-amble set forth the fact that Professor Briggs. since his accusation had supplemented sup-plemented his answer to the charges by answering numerous questions. These questions and the answers of Professor briggs aro part of the preamble. The resolution is to the effect that the presbytery, in view of these latter declarations de-clarations of Professor Briggs, deemed it expedient to arrest further proceedings proceed-ings and discharge the committee from further consideration of the matter.
