Show t : " THE SALT LAKE TIMES: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1891, g FAR3IINGT0X FINDS. SEVERAL PROSPECTORS PRONOUNCE THE DISCOVERIES PROMISING. Mining In Uintah County Some Fine Lead Veins Opened On the Surface, Which Feter Out When Depth is Gained The Dyer a Kich Property. Two or three parties came in from the new (discoveries at Farmington last night. They united in saying that while it is not an ex-traordinary strike, it is still a very promising ene. The mine was found by H. AV. South-- . worth, his son and a man by the name of Griffith, on the 25th of September. These naen were ia to-ivi- i yesterday, purchasing sup-flie- s and tofcls with which to pursue their development. They seemed much excited ver their find and believed they had made a trifce that ivould lead them to fortune. ' The story they told was much the sam as ppearcd in The Times of laEt nieht. The vein is about four feet wide and is' found iu granite formation. The mot of the ore is. lo-.- crade, ouly a little of it running more than $10 ft ton and much of itbelowthat ' amount. V.'hen its runs above that figure it runs into the thousands, the richest of it be-ing; vvnrth nearly $1400. i he present developments do not exceed three feet in depth, but the owners hare de-termined to co deeper and either make the Maim valuable or play it out ihoie. altogether, who have returned from the locality Vf the formation is quite favorable, and that tlieie Vg no reason why a mine Miould not be found there . Uintah County Mines. There was quste a little local excitemeut iver the mines in Uintah county last sprin? ni. prospectors went in there, particularly Vm Colorado, in considerable numbers"; Mit as nothing was found which would pay , So haul to Carter, on the. Union Pacific, eighty-fiv- e miles distant, the district has been virtually abandoned. ) E. C. Woods, who has been there all sura. ner, was seen nt the Cullen hotel last r.isht. r .He says: "The formation is a lime and a quartzite, and most of the ore is found in a contact whic h can be traced for thirty-fiv- e miles. On the surface there are some tine showings of irnkna ores which will run from 5u per cent iu lead upwards, but only four or rive ounces in silver; but even the.e" do not last when they are sunk on and there is not one of the eleims that has attained a depth f twenty-riv- e feet which is as good as it w as on the top of the ground. 'there is one real erood mine in Uintah county, that being the Vic-tori- a or Dyer. It is a copper mine, porondt ucing ore that will average over CO per copper aud will run eighteen or twenty Minces in silver. At present it is tied up by lawsuits and is onlv working one man, who Is able to get out a shipment of tifteen tons every two or three weeks. If that property v ere free it could be made a big producer, ts it frequently shows ten feet of srood ore. t present it is in the liads of K. C. Cham-bers r.s receiver for the different claimants. A on the Big Hole. " The washing ?f ason on the Big Hole placer .las ended and the clean up of the summer's run has Iicen made. While it is not so good as was anticipated it would he a month or two u go, it is better than it has ever been and the companv is therefore tora'i.-- veil pleased. Th gravel hanks, too, have tecn so well opened that better results for next year are almo.--t certain. The dividend of one cent a share is payable tomorrow.and nfter the report of the vears' operations shall have b cn issued, which will be in a few days, the Big Hole will be permitted to rer-- t anndst the Beuver Head snows unU ue.t I.'iamoml C on. Improvements. A new shaft house and other buildings have been completed on the Diamond con-solidated at Eureka, and the work of sinkiii" the shaft w ill be eoutiuued at once. The shaft at this time has reached a depth of Hcventy-tiv- e feet and is well timbered all the way. A new whim is already on the mine which with the soft nature of the rock will enable the contractors to sink the shaft with rapidity. The management is now receiving bids for sinking another hundred feet ; and when that is completed, other contracts will be let until the shaft is probably 4(Xfeet. Mining Exhibit.
