As the opening of the World's fair in Chicago will draw crowds of people from all quarters of the globe to see and admire the vastcollection of objects useful and ornamental, or rich in historical his-torical associations so iu like manner do the semi-annual millinery receptions of Mine Lamb attract the lovers of the beautiful and the artistic. For several years the receptions have been a marked feature in the history of this city, and for weeks preceeding have been a leading topic of conversation in ali social circles. That on Tuesday afternoon and evening was no exception excep-tion to the general rule; in fact, it was one of the most successful ever held. The display of rare and exquisite conceptions con-ceptions of the milliner's art was remarkable, re-markable, not ouly for the vast extent, but for the richness of the exhibit as well. The handsome cases throughout the spacious parlora were tilled with imported goods of the most exquisite designs and richest materials. Cbapuaus. capolea and toques lovely as a poet's dream, velvets iu all the fas-ciuating fas-ciuating aud popular tiuts, shaded velvets vel-vets in great variety, lovely ribbons, fancy feathers, pom-pon tips and the new aud beautilul iridescent effects in scale trimming and embroidery challenged chal-lenged the admiration of all visitors. The effect of the new trimming in the various shades ia indescribably lovely. Nearly all the goods shown were imported, im-ported, aud the exhibit was so extensive exten-sive aud so artistically arranged that the wonder was general how much could be done iu such a limited time. The elcguut parlora were tastefully decorated and preseuteda beautiful appearance. ap-pearance. As on former occasions sweet music from the dainty touch of au accomplished pianist regaled the visitors among the bowers and masses of natural tlowers and twining vines. Mum. Lamb never looked more beautiful beauti-ful than on this occasion, attired iu a superb gown of imported material, trimmed in angora. The corps of assistants as-sistants wore elegautly attired and with their pieasiug and courteous man-nera man-nera displayed a good selection of salesladies sales-ladies and irimmers on the part of Mr. and Mme. Lamb. Mr. Lamb has just returned from New York City, and all the ladies were unanimous in praise of the elegant taste he displayed in bis selections, hence we say milliners are born and not made. Few ladies can boast of the exquisite taste and style of thia gentleman gentle-man iu his selections of millinery. In astonishment we inquired: Is it possible possi-ble that so many elegant millinery novelties as kept by this tirm are sold in 8alt Lake? Yes: replied Mr. Lamb, and the neighboring cities; nothing is too fine for our customers. Since the Umudingof our establishment the ladies lad-ies in our city have been supplied with as stylish Chapeaus's, etc.as they could procure were they iu New ork or Paris, (n former receptions Mr. and Mme. Lamb received many deserved compliments on their enterprise and success, and at this week's reception these complimeuta were redoubled. As the reporter crowded his way through the parlors he saw at a glance that Mme. Lamb's millinery parlors are indeed in-deed a credit to the city, and certainly deserve unbounded success. |
