Parrish and Horace Van Fleet The clerk and the superintendent present and Mr Rampton ing The Thc minutes of the previous meeting were read and unanimous unanimous- unanimously ly approved approved- e Mrs Bertha Muir and Mrs Roy F F. j. j Priest of Bountiful met with the board representing the Parent- Parent t C Teachers and the Junior Red Cross of the county Mrs Muir to dis dis- discuss discuss dis- dis discuss cuss cuss the question of holding a Par visiting day at Davis High school and Mrs Priest what has been done being done in the schools of the county in the Jun Jun- Junior Junior un- un unior Red Cross works A committee of eight of the dis dis- district disi dis- dis i t bus drivers appeared before the board and discussed safety de de- devises de- de vises and conditions of buses and routes and matters in which im im- improvements might be made to tomake tomake make our school transportation more safe safe- safeA A lengthy discussion was had on what should be done at railroad crossings besides stop Look and Listen such as having a flag man things that could be done at crossings in re removing re- re removing removing moving things that now obstruct the view changing routes from dangerous crossings to more safe ones nes avoiding a the over-loading over of buses and allowing children to crowd croud around the driver so as to obstruct his view or attract his at attention attention etc and improving places where a bus has to turn around on the highway Two ladies residents of the south southend end of the county met with the board and jointed in in the discussion safe transportation Besides the safety discussions the drivers asked that arrangements be lc made at Davis high school for parking the buses and for loading and unloading students on the south side of the school and to i f have ha garages built for the buses bUes that now are standing out nights On O O motion oh Or Mr I r.- r. Van Fleet it was vas decided to build as many manyI I garages as the budget will permit beginning with one at Centerville and one at Farmington Mr Parrish reported that work draining the Centerville grounds that the boards board's is js goin portion will vill be to pay pay- for a fore fore- foreman foreman man iuan for part of the time and to furnish some tools Mr Ir Parrish was Avas authorized to take care of the needs Superintendent Burton reported having a letter of sympathy from this district to the Jordan for the recent school bus ius disaster ter Mr Ir Burton reported that a tele tele- telegram telegram telegram gram from the P PV W V A headquarters ers qs rs at San Francisco was received on on Saturday urging that projects 2 z 3 3 4 and 5 under docket No F 1067 be started at once so all allcan allcan allcan can can- be under way before the end of f this month The superintendent reported that school people from rom the state superintendents office had bad raised objections to placing the library addition to the Davis high hi h school in front at the north of the school a new location is being worked out ut on Oft ri the east of the cafeteria which to be more satisfactory A new nu electric stove in ia addition to the one now in use at the Stok Stok- Stoker er CT school is being asked for and Superintendent Burton recommended recommended mended that one be secured and installed under P PV V W A contract On motion of Mr Van Fleet sec sec- seconded seconded seconded by Mr Parrish it was un- un unanimously unanimously UnI I agreed that the archi archi- architect architect t be instructed to have haye it in in- included included included in the list of furnishings under tinder the contract for that school The question of a holiday on lolay January 2 2 in place of ol Ne Years day which falls on Sunday Su day was referred to Mr Bur Bur- Burton Burton Burton ton with instructions to adjust the die calender to conform Mr Ir Van Fleet moved that the clerk lerk- be arid arid- is hereby directed directed to advertise at the proper time for forbids or c bids ii on the whole or on part o othe of the work for construction of projects 2 3 3 4 and of Docket No F 1067 Utah The motion wa U seconded by Mr ed put am and carried unanimously Superintendent Burton report report- reported cd ed d the need according to the law of amending the budget so as to include the P V P A projects that tha are not included in the regular regula budget l d et which was adopted before receiving the VA P grants He pr pre P- P tented the following December 3 1938 Honorable Board of Education Davis County Count School District Farmington Utah Gentlemen k I J hereby request that an increase of 00 be made in the buc bud bud- budget budget get appropriations for capital ou out out- outlay lay liy for 39 1938 to pay for new new f buildings additions to buildings building and aIll building improvements Tl The amounts and set asic aside for tor these purposes are insufficient to pay for the buildings and im im- improvements im- im improvements planned by the Board Boan of Education with the assistance of P.
