Attraction and Climate Garfiald Beach and Othtr Piaai of Intdroii. The city of Salt Lake has a fam hich reuchps around the world. Tho population is about 5.J.00O, and Is in-creasing at a rapid rato. It is sit uated at the base of tho Wasatch mountain in a lovoly valley, rich iu agricultural and is eighteen miles distant from Great Salt Lake. Its elevation above sea level is 4,30 feet. There are many points of interest to visitors in tho rity aud near it. Here are some of them: Th TampU. This magnificent cream-whit- e granite Btrueture was began April 1, 1853. It la 100x2(10 feet, the walls are 100 feet high, and the towers, when completed, will bo 200 feet height. Over J3.n00.000 have been expended on tho temple, and It is now nearing completion. In the fame square with tlie tempie is tlie spa-cious building called Th. Tabernkol. Here are held tho .services of tho mor tnon church aud these are attended every Sunday by an immense congrega-tion of people, both mormon and gen-tile. Tho Htructuro is oval in shape, eventy-tiv- e feet high and MOxlM feet In length and breadth. It has a teating rapacity of 12,000 people, and here may be heard what is claimed to be the tiu-e.- st organ in the world. 1'alti once gang fn thetabernacle, aad demonstrated that Its acoustic powers are very line. Th (iard. llou.a r Amelia palace, was built by Hrigham Young who willed that it could bo the residence of his favorito wife. Amelia Folsom Young, but since his death it has been used as tho ollicial residence of dignitaries of the church. Hnahma Yunne't K.il known as tho ilea Hive and the Lion House are structures, curious from associations. These are situated in wbal was onen Mrigham Young's domain, all of which has passed lut.) other hands, save the large lot in iu which isBrigham Young's grave. l'rup.ot Kill with its lookout tower commands a splendid view of the city aud its sur-roundings. Tb Tlttatnc MmlJiHc 5obsesses interest as being the general epot for taxes collected by the mormon church from its disciples. Llbarlf fark, In the southeastern portion of tho city Is a beautiful resort and can be reached by rapid transit traius, Th. ChtmbK of (ainm.rrs. on Second South street is visited by those who takeun interest in the com-mercial standing of tho city. There are several large eases containing .spec-imens of Utah's mineralogy which at-tract much attention. SjH Lk Thoatar. This latter place of amusement was built by Brigham Young over thirty rears ago. It is a large and beautiful temple aud comfortably arranged. A.mbly Hall, near the temiile, is used in winter for worship by trie mormons, the taberna-cle being too large to admit of proper heating. Assembly hall is 120x08 feet, and cost $150,000. The ceiling is dec-orated which church pictures among '.hem the Angel Moroni, disclosing the hiding jplaco of tho golden plat us to Joseph Smith. Camp Donglaa. three miles east of the cit v and over 401 feet above it is beautifully laid out in the midst, of lawns and orchards, and the barracks and houses of the ollicers re built of stone. The post commands & wide view of the city and beyond where Great Salt Lake lies molten sil-ver at the foot of the western moun-tains. Hack's Hot Spring:. are in the northern part of the eity about three miles from l fit) business center, lhey issue from the base of the moun-tuin-and are regarded as a very valua-ble aid in eases of rlieuuitit ism dygpen-b-und semi'iiHa. The waters are used both internally and externally, and there is an exeellent balii house und neeess iry appointment for the comfort of j.alif ins. The Warm Sulphur Hprlngrs are between the Hot Springs and thfe city, about one mile from the poslolTioa. There is a good hotel and comfortable bath house in connection with the prints, aud they cwi b reached by street railway. The Monetalns are unsurnafved in t, potions. end at least a tlnven of the grandest are within reach of the city. These invito thd tourist to spend days, weeks or months among their wild recesses to fish, to hunt, to scale tho peaks and ridges, and to gather wild (lowers Ity the mousy springs, beneath the shade at umbrageous pines. Hip; Cottonwood eanon should be seen by every tourist. Here are lake Mary and Martha from which flows the turbulent Cottonwood river-- , and at the baso of the mountains aro bikes Hlaucho, Florence and Lilian. Besides thetse are Mills creek, Parley's Emigration, aud City Creek canons, all extremely pioturotquo and delightfully roinantfo. Pleasant Drives .bound in scores around the outskirts, of the eity; along tha quiet country roads, ami through the laues .dividing meadows of rich green alfalfa and holds of grain; while the majestic mountains aro never entirely lost sight of. From tinder the branches of trees and above hedges of the wild dog-ros- glimpses are caught of snow covered peaks. A drive to Fort Pouglas, and then a mile further out to the mouth of Emigration ranon is almost delightful. It was here that the sight of the mormon pioneers was first made glad by the vast expanse of Salt Lake valley suddenly burst upon them, on the 21th of July, 1847. Th Great Butt Lak. "I think." says Ernest Ingersoll, "few persons realize how wonderfully, strangely beautiful this island sea is," and speaking of its sunsets l'hil Robin-son had said: "Where have I not seen sunsets, by land und sea, in Asia. Af-rica. Europe and America, and where can I say I have ever seen more won-dercu- s coloring, more electrify ing effects than in the sunset on the Great Salt Lake of I'tah." Salt Lake is as oeauli-fu- l a sheet of w ater as can be found anywhere. The waves are bright blue orgreen.and as t hey dance on itssurfaco It would be hard to" tell which color pre-vails. It is dotted with beautiful Inlands, aud it affords the finest talt Kuter in the world. NOTICE OF SALK I'NDKH 1'KKD OK TKl'ST.
