Show BINGHAM'S BONANZA. A WONDERFULLY RICH STRIKE MADE IN THE ST. ELMO MINE. At a Depth of Fifty Feet a Two and a Half Foot Vein of High Grade Ore is Uncovered Bullion-Beck, I I'lataMining Notes. A very rich discovery of ore has teen, made jn Bingham. Those -w ho have seen it claim it is the beist strike opened on. a new mine there this year. The claim which enjoys the distinction, is culled the St. Elmo, and it is located in Oregon gulch about one mile from its mouth. Oregon gulch is nearly a mile below the intersection of Carr's Fork and main Bingham. The lessees of the. property nd. the owners of the option on the mine c Messrs. Weaver, Flynn and some others. The information received says: The strike was made on the Sunday night shift, and it is of such richness as to almost assure the lessees of a competency, if not a fortune. It is only a short time since the parties mentioned men-tioned became possessors of the lease and bond on this claim. They hud been working work-ing it with two shifts and had sunk a shaft to a depth of fifty feet. A well defined vein had been followed . from the surface, nd this had been accompanied by gouge heavily mineralized. Some time between miduiffht of Sunday nd daylight of Monday, the miners had put in some shots which they had fired and gone on the surface. On one of the partners being lowered to the bottom of the shaft after the blasts had been exploded ho could not contain the enthusiasm which was iusnircd by the sight which met his eyes. The shots had broken into a solid vein of mineral that glistened in the flicker of the candles like a million gems. He shouted to his partner on the surface: "For God's sake come down here:" The other minor climbed down the shaft, and the sight that met his view convinced con-vinced him at once that a body of ore of extraordinary ex-traordinary importance had been uncovered. The work done siuee Monday has proven the vein to be good two and one half feet wide, all of it being a massive calena. In grade it Is richer than any of a similar character of ore now being mined in Bin-bam, the average aver-age assays miming 80 ounces in silver, 40 percent lead, and ( in gold. The ground is so soit that ten feet have been Hmjc jn tnc eliatt since the strike was made, and every loot, bus shown an improvement. Several tons of the ore arc now ou the dump, and. it vill only lvtuiiru that a road shall be made to the mine before it can become a shipper. Horn Silver Kailroad Troubles. An item appeared in the Beaver U Ionian of last week to the effect that the difficulties between the Union Pacific railroad and the Horn Silver, would iucvitahly re&ult in the closing down of that mine at least temporarily, tempo-rarily, A. ('. 'Washington v. ho represented the Kew Yol k stockholders of the Horn Silver at Hie election of directors at Fric-eo on Tuesday, Tues-day, said to a Times reporter yesterday that such w as not the ease. The mine was now shipping and would continue to do so. There was little tiii.-understandiiig nnvhow. There v. ere no difT rem cs between tlc" mine management and the railroad company; the whole trouble was between the railroad and the Fur Mo smelters which were purchasers ff Horn Silver ore. These smelters convey the .ire from Frisco (u Pueblo over t lie I'. 1, but the bullion product is shipped east from Pueblo over other roads than the. U.I'.; and that road in trying to compel the smelters to ship tin- bullion r;i.-i over its line advanced the freight rate from Frisco to Pueblo on the ore. This hart the. effect of shutting the (mclters of that place out of the competition for 1 1 rn Silver ores. The Horn Silver pr ver ships its on n production but delivers it on board the ears at Frisco, scliin" it in that shape to the highest bidder. AVlint La riata is Doing. Mayor Haines of Logan, who was in the city yesterday, said the Sunrise mine in La riata district was now producing and 6hir-f5 6hir-f5 about four tons of ore a day. This all !-. - ":' from ,h,; mrfacc of that claim, it not V ug necessary yet to go to a greater depth Jhau ten feet. It is calculated that there is already enough ore in sight on the surface of the claim to maintain the present production pro-duction for at lea.- t ninety days. The first lot of ore shipped netted more than 40a ton, sfttr paying all expenses of transportation nd smelting. At (hi., grade it would leave a profit over the expense., of minin" and everything Hsc. of Sat a ton. An engine was ordered for the La Plata mine and was sent pp this week. -When it is in place that property will be able to produce as much as the Sunrise Both mines will work all v. inter. Bullion Beck for September. Dining the month of September, the Bui. lion Beck shipped 27(0 tons of ore. This is the largest output in a single mouth the Peck has ever made, but the mine will be aMc to keep it up for a long time to come based on what has been ' opencd lately in the various levels. The shaft has been sunk t.fty feet below the CnlO level ;ir,d is continuing continu-ing down to the 0o0. All the levels from the 4o0 down, are either producing or arc being be-ing driven towards ore clutes coming from the levels above. From the developments made this summer the management anticipates antici-pates it will be able to make a production of ojOO tons a mouth throughout No Calls on 'Change. It was decided again this morning to suspend sus-pend the calls on the mining exchange during dur-ing the fair. TOPAT"S OHE KECEir-TS. -V'"- Tors. The Emma in Little Cottonwood shipped eixty tons last month. Regular shipments of fifteen tons a day ere being made, by the Northern Light at Ophir. The cave strut k in the Northern Spv shaft lias continued for fifty feet. It is filled with mineralized spar. Hank Smith expressed the opinion yesterday yester-day that one more year's development world make the Beck tiie biggest mine in Utah. The new shaft on the Northern Spy has reached a depth of 585 feet. A drift w'ill be started for tho ore. when it reaches GOO feet " James Beverage has been employed for the past two weeks by the Union Pacific in securing the right of way to the Spy mine. Bemis Bros, it Klopenstein have opened on immense body of sulphide, on: in the gulch below the Spanish mine at Bingham. Pat Donnelly is in from Tintic enjoying the sights at "the fair. Mr. Donnelly is su'-perintending su'-perintending tins work on oome mining jiropcrty north of Eureka which he thinks lias great possibilities. The tunnel on the Baby McKec lias been run I'M feet, the la.-t ninety being on the vein. In the breast there is four feet of ore. A inzc is being sunk near the face of the tunnel which is now down ten feet, at which depth the ore is nix feet w ide. Shipments aggregate seven tons a day. |
