Uatold Thousands of Tons of Eich Gold a::d Silver Ores Exposed by r jry Blust, GRADING FOR T:TE ROAD AUD MILL Directors' Mstir g of the Bullion-Bec- k Go on With the Development Giiaon's Gossip. A letter was received by A. E. Hyde yesterday lrom W. P. Holding, super-intendent of the Sevier miuo, contain-ing the news that there had. been no change in tho condition of the mine since tho last report, in no direction can developments be prosecuted where the showing of ore is not of great size and rich in ipiality. A part of the men employed are at work building tho read from the mine to tho miil and se eral more of them are making the excavations for the mill itself. Accompanying the letter was a list of more than inn assay.', which were ruado on every character of rock found in the veiu, and fonpiito a distance each side of it and from the surface croppings. The most of these show well and one of them was ti e richest evtr obtained from the mine, going over $0000 in gold and nh it to the ton. Tho average of tho w liule number of assays was $o0. (m.on- - it's. it Sam Gilson came in from Dugsvay a day or t.vo ago much happier than he hus been for months, all because water had been struck within three miles of tho liuckhorn mine. Tho well only had to be sunk tiliy-uiu- feet to get a good flow. While the water is slightly brackish it is still drinkable. The water from the Dykes well at Government (ink Mr. Gilson says is as line us ho ever drank anywhere and is almost as cold as ice. Tho well was sunk r,"J feet and the water comes to within ten feet cf the curlaee. The 1'iiK'khorn shaft has reached a depth o!' ninety-liv- feet and for the last forty feet has been sinking in the porphyry as it was so much softer than tho vein. When a depth of 100 fet is reached a cross cut will lie started with the strong expectation of gettiug a bjJy of ore. Mining Fcr the fir-- time in several months there was a whitewash ou the exchange. A Tarty of loit I.sken VI. II tk t'lso and i'latJ. A party of Salt Lake people have re-turned from a visit to Helper, the new town on the Rio Grande Western liue. The town is about three miles from Castle Gate in Emery county, and has the prospect of becoming one of the most important places in Utah. The Kio Grande Western is already Inter-esting itself in the future of the town and intunds making it one of the chief points on its lice. The railroad com-pany has eighty acres of land fenced in, which will doubtless bo utilized. New buildings, shops and tracks will be constructed by the railroad com-pany. Knoujrh coal is reportod to be within fivo miles cf Helper to a'ord employ-ment to 4000 men. The railroad com-pany will doubtless run spurs in vari-ous directions to tap the coal beds. The ilio (irande Western is now running trial trains from Ogrten to Helper and t he time made is satisfactory. In the near future there is a probability that the principal divisions on the road will be at Ogdeu, Helper and Grand Junction. - SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF. bxerot.. The deaf-mut- departmunt of tho University of Doseret will inaugurate another year on Monday next, and the prospects are very favorable for an in-creased attendance. Many have advanced so rapidly under these articulalive exer-cises that they are readily understood; and as this is a free school, conducted under the auspices of the territory, everyone allleted in this way should receive tho beneli; of its instruction. Tho instructors consist of Prof. Frank W . Metcalfe, teacher of the advanced classes, Miss l.iu'lla Stilller, aud Mr. I'rank M. Driecs, teachers of interine- - d'tto and primary grades, and Mis S.
