Committees cf the American i'orestry association and the association for the Advancement of Science presented to the president yesterday yes-terday a memorial, relating to the various vari-ous forest reservations to be proclaimed by the president under the act of March 3, iy.il. The committees submitted detailed informatiot regarding the Tulare reservation res-ervation in California, the I'ecos river in New Mexico, tho Fikes Teak. Colo., tho Flathead and Marias in Montana, and the Minnesota Natioual park, w hica they strongly urge the president to create and to provide for their proper protection. 1 he objects for which the reservations at tho headwaters of streams am asked is to retain iu the hand of the federal government these acres upon acres of forests, on the condition of which depend de-pend to a great extent the water supplies sup-plies for a large area of adjoining country. |
