Show WHAT THE INDIAN CRANKS WANT- The? Think That a ltadcul Change In th. ftnr.au U Neret.arr. rillt.APKLl'lilA, Jan. 14. The executive execu-tive committee of the Indian Rights association as-sociation adopted an appeal to the citizens citi-zens of the United States in behalf of the Indians. The appeal says: The lirst arid most important requisite re-quisite is a single, responsible and competent head for the management af Indian affairs and charged with that duty Only, who shall report directly to tho president and bo looked to by the country at largo for a successful Indian management. The Indian service should be wholly free from. the interference inter-ference of partisan politics, and its management should continue its policy and carry out its educational work undisturbed un-disturbed by the changing administrations. administra-tions. While we do not advocate a complete transfer of tho Indian man agement to the war department, we believe be-lieve all the advantages which the advocates ad-vocates of that plan desired could be obtained by naming able and experienced ex-perienced army ollicers as Indian agents, without the counterbalancing disadvantages which, we believe, would result from so radioal a change. |
