A large crowd of indignant citizens, principally Metho-dists, met at the chamber of commerce rooms Saturday evening, and passed resolutions condemning Kev. Sam Small for his scandalous attacks upon the Methodist university people. They denounce his statements as "false, ma-licious, and emanating from corrupt motives and an unchristian heart." The board of trustees are represented ns "men of kuown integrity," and Small's letters are regarded us "hold aud un-scrupulous attempts to deceive the American people." They waru all peo-ple to beware of the man "whose record here is very qtiestiouable and unsa-vory." The general conference to be held here in June will take up the mat-ter and some rich developments in the case are promised. Small is now in Canada but announces that he will re-turn here to tight the matter in the COU'.tS. The verdict in the Griffin murder case has excited general comment. Iv'ine jurymen favored an acquittal, while three held for murder in the first and second degrees. After over twenty-fou- r hours of wrangling they agreed on a verdict of voluntary manslaughter. A new trial has been asked for by the de-fendants, and the case will be argued on the liOlh of this mouth. It is claimed that much new evidence has been pro-cured for bolh sides, and a new trial will probably be grained. - Yesterday the Grand Army veterans and church going people assemlilud at Lester Park pavilion to hold memorial aervices. All the churches were well represented, and the pavilion was filled with old soldiers, members of the woman's relief corps, and church people of all denominations. --t- - Cousiderable excitement was caused Saturday evening by the finding of the body of a young man in a slough neiir the Hot Springs. He had been dead probably twenty four hours and is sup-posed to have committed suicide. No letters orother marks whereby he miglit be identilied were found on his person. He was brought to the city and placed in Kichey'it undertaking parlors wait-ing an inquest. The man was well dressil, about five feet six inches in height, had dark hair, gray eyes, smooth face and looked to be about HO ye.rs of age. large procession headed by the Og-de-band marched to the corner of Twenty fifth and Juincy yesterdery afternoon. The occasion was the lay-in- n of the new Sacred Heart academy corner stone. This buildinjj is being f rcitsd by the Kistera of the Holy cross al a rout of JTo.lMH) and will be a mas-sive brick structure. Right Rev. L. Scanlan of Salt Lake City, performed ceremony and the choir of St. Joseph' church furnished the music. 4- --t- -- - The Woman's Christian Temperance union will hold an interesting session this afleruoon. Rrctden w ill read a paper on "The Legal Status of Woman.,' Some of the city ordinances will be read and a general discussion of the legal and moral points in them will be bad. The electrio cars will soon be run-ning and the Junction city people will take on new life and activity. Con-tracts have been let for the building of a power house and for tlio extcusion of several miles of track.
