Chamberlain & Co. PEESSED BRICK TO BE MADE. The Bait Lake Pressed Brick Company Organized With a Paid Up Cap-ital of $5 0.000- Several hundred thousand dollars have been taken away from this city during the past building season to City, St. Louis and Den-ver that ought to have been kept at homo. On Sunday the following appeared in he editorial columns of tho Denver Nmvs: Tho a ne or O ion pressed brlrk is growing There 1 Mt tJ.ild 'it ves'e d y a cpec. al train of eighteen l'.rd 'd wuh t(K,'ia pivsird Ml k from tne entahl hini nt of Mwsri. C euinoiit s not needed t Illustrate the excellence of thexe UoldtMi Inl li. or the ndv intimes 'hlch accrue title stat) ly fustorliiK manufacturing In-dustries. - This showing, while a splendid ad-vertisement of tho immenso amount of building being done in the city, was rather a sad relleetion against our man-ufacturing enterprise. But it is to be remembered in this counection that the diniand for plain building brick was so great last season that it taxeil tho full capacity of the yards in this city, and required the starting of a half dozen or more new concerns. Tho manufacturers had hardly time to discover the most favor-abl- e beds of clay and little opportunity of testing its merits for the manufacture of a fine quality of pressed brick. The fact of there being clay suitable for making a good quality of hard burned vitrified brick was also called into question. It was openly asserted that no such clay could be found. But this has 'been settled by a first class vitrified brick being made by Cannon & Haynes so hard that it will break to pieces tho best vitrified brick that have been imported to this city from the Beatrice, Neb., kilns, as well as tho specimens sent hero by other manufacturers of that article. Win. S. Simpkins has turned out a very tine specimen of red brick, which is now so popular. Other yards have succeeded in turning out some very tine specimens, and the demand for 'common building brick has been in a great measure met. Now the atten-tion of the brick makers is directed to making the fancy grades of hard pressed brick. Just at the same hour that the Real Estate Exchange was discussing the ar-ticle from the Denver News, given above, and lamenting the fact that our brick makers had not met the demand in this line of manufacturing enter-prise, a number of our leading brick manufacturers were incorporating the Salt Lake pressed brick company, with a paid up capital of $"i0,000. This coincidence of a train load of pressed brick being enrouteto this city, the real estate exchange discussing the question and a company forming for the manufacture of tho article, is a striking illustration of the rapidity with which the forces are forming to meet every demand made by the. rapid growth of the city. The gentlemen connected with the Salt Lake pressed brick company are among the leading brick manufactur-ers and are all men on practical exper-ience. The company is composed of m. O. Simpkins. A. W. Barraclough and S. H. Barnes, of the enterprise brick company, I. S. Austin. John Calhoun aud Harry Haines of the Murray brick company. These gentlemen have the clay suita-ble to make a first class hard pressed brick equal to the best Kansas City hard pressed brick and will at once purchase the necessary machinery t" turn out 120,000 brick daily, by running twenty-fou- r hours. Th's enterprise is one which contrac-tors and builders will hail with delight as it will both cheapen tho price of buiiding aud keep ttie large sums of money at home that "have been paid out to help build up foreign cities. The enormous suiii-pai-out to the railroae companies will be saved to the persons building dwelling aud business blocks The cheapening of hard pressed brick will improve the class of buildings in this city, as it Will permit the nse of hard brick in a great many buildings where the fancy price demanded pre-vented their use. Kirkerood-Yate- Nothing less than the mission on which he was summoned could have in-duced Judge Laney to make a voyage to the banks of tho rippling Jordan last evening, where two hearts "with but a single thought" aw aited the solemniza-tion of vows by which Albert S. Kirk-woo- d and Miss" Manda Yates were made man and wife. Tho judge, it is con-tended, has been reading up on Laney's marriage guide, and hence the recent tax upon his services. 1'roliate Court: The business done this morning was: Estate of Frederick R. Farmer, de-ceased; continued to Saturday, Jan-uary 10. Estate of Robert Williams, deceased; order made granting prayer. Estate of Abraham Hays, deceased; continued to January 18. Estate of John Cunnington, deceased; order made admitting will to probate and appointing William W. Chisholm and John Horlick executors without bonds, under the terms of the will. JACKSON'S DAY.
