The truth is, that New York, from sheer force of pressure and habit, seems to be incapable of addressing any other argument lo the democracy of the country except as composed in equal parts of menace anil money. To browbeat brow-beat aud cajole, to threaten and entice, is the usunl stock-in trade of the average aver-age New York politician, and the democrats dem-ocrats of Iho nest and south are mighty tired of it. They apprehend the value of tho vote of New York as a factor in the general election. They realize its potency iu a national convention. As a rule they are not unwilling to buy it since it can only be had by purchase provided it does not cost too much.
