Show FOUND IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS. A Ilontnn Man Claims to II iva Uncovered a New MltiMral, Boston, March 0. George A. Clarke, au experienced iron worker of tliiseity, claims to have discovered ore in tho Rocky mountains which he believes to bo new to the world. He says of it: "I took a specimen of tho ore to as-sayers as-sayers at Cincinnati, Chicago, and Boston, Bos-ton, and no one of them could tell me the name of the mineral. Then I began hero a series of experiments, mixing it with molten iron. It combined perfectly per-fectly with iron and I found that only a small quantity was necessary to increase in-crease the fluidity of the metal. "It rendered iron ductile and in low grades acted as a purifier. The product pro-duct of the alloy was a homeogenius ' metal of very fine ores, capable of higher finish than before, I found it gave the metal greater density and greater tensile strength. It is nou-cor-rosive. ; 1 Clarke produced a handful of tho ore substance that looked like fine sandstone, sand-stone, save that it was black and in ntany pieces it presented a highly polished pol-ished surface as smooth as a bit of glass. Clarne refused to state tho location of the field. |
