At I o'clock the lire had destroyed property to tho amount of a quarter of a million and it is still burning. The lire originated origi-nated in the basement of the Budd house, which was filled with sleeping guests, and completely gutted the house. ' QGuests- awakenod and run out into the street in their night clothing, while many, crazed by fear. Jumped from the windows. Among the were two ladies and a child, both of whom are badly Injured, William II. Horn jumped from a third storr window aud fell on his back and was fatally Injured. Five guests are misMng. They are believed be-lieved to have been burned to death while sleeping. A high wind was blowing at the time and after the hotol had been swept away the flames spread to the National Bank of eomuierco building, and that with the building occupied by M uk A Decernon, grocers, aud Quickhert A Co., merchant tailors, the Owenaboro Me. tousrer, Marder's saloon, Smith's butcher butch-er shop, Williams, furnishing K.wnU, John Heiuhard, furniture; A. There were several narrow escapes from tha burning burn-ing hotel, Charles Biirvford of New Albany and Charles l.inhelo of Phila-delphia Phila-delphia are badly ami probably fatally burned. |
