One couple no sooner withdraws than another take its place, and the scene is repeated. The Zing Zang at Iniliauapolln. "Zing Zangs" are very popular with tha colored people of Indianapolis. The enter-tainment is one of the most unique of the age. Every vestige of furniture in the room where one is to take place is removed before the "zing zang" begins. Tallow candles are then stuck in tho walls and everything is ready. A dark skinned sou of Africa then leads the girl whom he loves le.st out into the middle of t he room and the assembled guests form a circle around them. ".Scratch gravel," yells he. At the same time ho and his partner begin an ani-mated double shulHe, keeping time to the patting and stamping of the hands and feet of the crowd that surrounds them. Oftentimes a single couple will keep this peculiar dance up for a half hour without nee pausing during that time. In fact Bound to Hot a Picture. ' Jean Paul Loquet, now serving a life term In the Wisconsin penitentiary, began Lis murderous career three score years ago, when a lad of 6, by braining his younger brother. He ended it the other day by killing his third wife. He was 50 years Id when he married her, and she was a pretty Freuch maiden of 17. It is for this crime that he must remain In prison the rest of his life. In early manhood, while a resident of Green Bay, Loquet married a half breed. Soon afterward the squaw mother disappeared, and Loquet married Mrs. Mansart, the wife of neighbor who died by poison. In a fit of jealousy Mrs. Loquet declared that her husband had committed the crime. Next morning she was not to be seen, and it became known later on that Loquet had cremated her in a big Dutch oven. A son who witnessed the deed was slain by his father. The fiendish old man was tried and scn- -' tenced at Oshkosh recently. Ho is over six feet tall, has immensely broad shoul-der and a deep chest. His hair is dark brown, and his small twinkling eyes show a baleful greenish tinge. |
