Show There is considerable force in Surgeon Sur-geon General Hamilton's report regarding regard-ing the loose manner in which we treat immigration to this country. The hosts of foreigners that annually land on our shores are subjoct to the most superficial super-ficial medical examination. Except that tho steerage passengers are vaccinated, vac-cinated, no precaution against the importation im-portation of contagious diseases is taken. Perhaps it would be impossible to do more after the passengers reach the L'nited States, but some care might be exercised through our counsels before be-fore the immigrants leave home. Now that the exodus from northern Europe is rapidly decreasing, and the less desirable de-sirable class of Italians and Slavs coming com-ing in their place, it would seem to be both timely and appropriate to enforce stricter sanitary rules concerning these people. |
