Show WI1ATABOCT MKS. O'SHEA? In the extraordinary trial for the dvorce of Captain O'Shea from his wife there were four priucipals involved, namely: The plaintiff, the defendant, her sister and the co-respondent. The plaintiff, Captain O'Shea, was at one time a bosom friend of Parnell. It was lie who negotiated the so-called Kiltnainham treaty which resulted in the release from prison of the Irish leader. After that the two colleagues fell out, and it is generally conceded that O'Shea is a bad character; so much so in fact, that when the divorce suit was filed and Mrs. O'Shea made counter charges imputing that her husband had connived at her ruin, every body thought him capable of such an atrocity. Vet he goes forth victor from the court and in addition to his divorce secures tho custody of the small children. Parnell, the co-respondent, proven to bo tho gay Lothario that wrought the defendant's ruin, Parnell, who, in the hour of her conviction deserts her, is still the leader of bis party; aye, what is more important, his party is eager to sustain him. Mrs. Steele, the sister of Mrs. O'Shea, accused of immoral conduct with Captain Cap-tain O'Shea, comes out of the case vindicated, vin-dicated, no witness having appeared to prove the charges preferred against her by her sister to be true. And what about Mrs. O'Shea? She is the only ouo hopelessly swamped in the wreck. She is deserted, disgraced, pilloried, divorced, and robbed of her children. That is the way a scandal of this kind most always ends. |
