Show VALKNTINE SCKIP. ' An Important Land Decision by the Secretary Secre-tary of the Interior. Washington, March 27. In the case of Frank Hiirn and others, who made application to locale lo-cale Valentine scrip npon tide lands near Seattle, ia the stale of Washington, the secretary of the interior decided that such land is not within the intent of the act of congress authorizing the issue of Valentine scrip on public lands of the li nited States. He holds further that since location loca-tion upon unsurveyed lands it was merely a preference right to perfect such ltication after survey ai against claims of all others except the United States, hut that until such location is adjusted U pnblio surveys, the United States has autliorits todispnao of the lands covered thereby. Such disposition he holds is made by the tract in controversy con-troversy by the admission of Washington iutxj the Union as a state. Hence, even ware it to be conceded that the lands were at the date of location loca-tion subject to disposal by the general government, govern-ment, the rights of the state aro Bunerinr tothoat of the scrip applicants. It is stated that the lands in question are located on the water front of Seattle, winch together with improvements, are valued at several million dollars. |
