R B Tolman Dr Smedley was born in a little one room log tog house bouse with a dirt roof roo on Dec Dee 31 1866 the third son of Samuel and Eliza Sturton Smedley who arrived in Utah by byox byox ox ix team just 15 years after the first Mormon pioneers Ills His education education tion was limited due to the new new- newness newness ness of the pioneer condition lie He went out to work at the age of nine and labored for a number of summers for the 10 late Joseph C. J and Eliza Ellia Ward Boulton she is the mother of two daughters i Dr Smedley was always a pub pub- public lic lie spirited citizen and did much in ina ina a public way He lie was a member members of the selection selection- service board during World war I and was a charter member of the Commer Commer- Commercial cial club and a past chairman of the local Democratic committee Surviving are his widow and ind five fhe sons and four daughters 26 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren one sister Mrs Mrs' I Mary S.
