Show The Farmers Society of Equity Recently wo have had in this locality, lo-cality, Mr. Victor C. Fonncsbock. n young farmer from tho northern part of tho state, Booking to Interest tho farmers In tho Farmers' Society of Equity of Indianapolis, Ind., a natural nat-ural farmers' organization which now claims a membership of nlmost a million mil-lion members, In tho various states of the union. I understand this society has already al-ready been established in Cache and Uox Elder counties, nnd considerable benefit is reported to have been derived de-rived from it In tho way of Incrensed prices for produce nnd a material saving In tho prlco of machinery, fencing, sacks, etc., which tho farmers farm-ers aro continually buying In considerable consid-erable quantities. Tho plnu of tho orgnnlzntlou Is to ostnbllsh In the principal cities and towns of the state, town or local units, comprising as many mombors as possible. Town units In a county unlto In forming n county unit, and tho various county units in the state, in turn, affiliate together, forming a stnto unit nnd clearing house, through which the business of the stato Is transacted. Tho stato unit forming part of tho national organization. organi-zation. To organize a stato unit at least flvo counties must afflllato together. to-gether. Tho purpose of the society la the mutual protection and uplift of the farmers. This is to bo accomplished in n number of ways; a few of which may be mentioned. 1st To provide markets for the produce of tho farm. 2nd To encourngo tho erection of elovntors and store houses, where crops may bo held and money realized on same to meet tho farmers' Immcdl-nto Immcdl-nto wants, until such a time as a fair and legitimate prlco may bo realized 3rd To aid tho farmer in tho purchase pur-chase of his machinery, fencing, seed, etc., cutting out as far as posslblo tho middle man's profit. 4th To promote nnd encourage all Industries In tho county that aim for tho betterment of farm llfo conditions. condi-tions. Tho farmer has long been looked upon as tho legitimate prey of mid-dlo mid-dlo men, who havo taken tho cream nnd left tho skim milk. This has been mado posslblo on account of the unorganized condition of tho tiller of tho soli. Only by organization can tho farmer oxpect to get tho respect, consideration and returns that his oc. cupntlon and Industry entitles him to. Hut says ono, "Tho fnrmera can't stick together." That Is Just what tho mid. die men want tho fnrmcrs to bolelve, and looso no opportunity of Impressing Impres-sing them with th eldea. Wo should got rid of such nonsense, for self In. toroBt demands that tho farmers gel together, not for tho purposo of extortion, ex-tortion, but to get n fnlr compensation compensa-tion for honest toll. In this day or high taxes, high water malutalnence, high cost for everything tnat mo farmer docs not raise, does It not occur oc-cur to you, fellow fnrmers, that unless un-less wo organize for self protection, that wo will all land In the poor houso together. Tho Fnrmers' Society of Equity lins orgnnlzed units In American Fork nnd Lohl, I bollovo; and Invitation is extended for others to Investigate the movemont. Some circulars will be distributed In tho near future to the farmors, and ono of tho national organizers or-ganizers Is expected soon to meet with tho people. Respectfully, GEO. F. SHELLEY. |
