footing up their inventories and making comparisons of reports with the old flush times and those 6 the past season in like manner our secret benevolent societies throughout the city have been looking into their affairs and through their financial committees have more closely ce scrutinized utilized the accounts of at secretaries ret aries arles and treasurers treasur ers in this respect among the odd follows fellows this has been a busy ausy week for principal officers reports a of all kinds have been the order ot at the evening sessions and tile the members ot of the lodges in our city have bave manifested an interest in their financial reports that hitherto was not known but much to tile the surprise of 0 the uninitiated the reports ot of the majority of the salt lake bodies show an increase in their reserved funds and a healthy status of business affairs among the people generally also there Is being generally noticed a moi more o frequent inquiry relative to ill the L merits of the society and there thera la Is a 3 steadily increasing application tor for membership the spelling ope op alne elling week of 1535 1895 has been a strictly business one in all senses the io inferring of degrees decrees and admittance of members being beine shelved until after installation of the new officers which win will occur durin durans this thia week nos 9 and 13 15 uniting on a matter of universal regret that the ladles ladies of miriam no 5 did not feel themselves in a position to unite with their sisters or of naoma no 1 I in a public installation of their officers leers off next saturday any A ny way the matter Is settled and the members of the two lodges will install their officers in secret session on that date the D D G SI sister clara L I 1 moore bloore P 11 G officiating the members of miriam no 5 did a very graceful act on saturday night when in parting with their worthy permanent secretary sister way hay J licary they unanimously voted the thanks to her such courtesies to retiring tiran members are always appreciated and are matters a ot record to active members through a lifetime the utah odd fellows seem to be without a paper it Is many weeks cince corns cerns the fraternity Is the election of representatives to the next grand lodge which can convenes venes in salt lake city next nest april since the session of 1892 the representation has been twice reduced until an anxious inquiry Is now being made lunde as to the pro rat rati i we ve have it that it will bs be one for he charter of each subordinate and c tor for each fifty members and one for a possible majority of the remaining of members member this will reduce tile the number of lodge depre n to be elected by about one half and already the members are commencing to speer after the brothers who will best serve the interests of the order many of the brothers are already considering I 1 si whether the legislation to be advanced at the next session of the grand lodge will ria receive the attention of a sufficient representation from I 1 subordinates the item in yesterdays issue of this paper concerning the action of grand sire stebbins relative to the action of the noman homan Cath catholic olio church versus certain secret societies received such attention in our midst and Is worthy of reproduction ODD FELLOWS the odd idd follows fellows organization in tho the united states has already alread 3 entered protest against the apparently sweeping ill culmination mi nation of the holy see sec against secret societies coddles that catholics may not consistently become odd fellows the latter deny claiming that their order Is in no sense bense secret la in the objectionable sense specified by the recent vatican already those protests have had their knect with great exactness and ability tor for the new officers of salt lake valley no 12 for the next six months the committees ap appointed pouted to arrange a memorial day pro gramme tor for memorial day starting an A 0 V U NV labor bureau where brothers out of work may register themselves and where employers who rho are needing help can call find good men and true because no man but who is a better man tor for being a member ot of this most glorious fraternal insurance society tile the labor bureau Is operated successfully in denver and other large cities ot of the east and people who hire men
