Show OPHIR HILL improvements in speaking of the im improvements P being 11 made at the ophir hill at ophir county the mercur miner says manager E W dark clark is taking advantage of the fine fin e weather to push the work forward on the ophir hill mill as rapidly as possible although they lia have been somewhat Zat hindered by the failure of material erial to arrive about 50 men are employed including those at work on the pipe line and the grounds around the mill looked like a lumber yard with the piles of timber etc A great deal of wall work had to be done anthe on the side of the mill next the hill and it is of avey a very permanent and substantial character the frame work is all up and the building enclosed and the roof will be completed in a day I 1 or two the work of putting in the machinery can then go on without interruption during stormy weather two pelton water wheels are in place one of them is of 75 horse power and will drive the machinery of the mill the other will drive a com compressor for foe operating the machine drills in the mine the power will be supplied by a pipe line nearly a mile long which is now being laid the pipe will be twenty four inches in diameter at the intake decreasing to fifteen inches it is expected ex acted this will take all the water from the creek besides adding largely to the supply by avoiding all seepage and evaporation hydrants will supply water for all purposes to all those entitled to water there is a fall of about feet in the pipe line so that the water is delivered at a pressure of about pounds and there is enough water to furnish twice the power now needed in the mill the present capacity will be tons per day but there will be room in the mill to put in additional rolls and jigs so as to double the output it depends upon the success of the present mill whether it will be enlarged or not it was vas expected that the mill would be ready reada for operation by the first of the year but it will probably be two months later before everything is running all right in regard to putting up a smelter of which there has been some rumors manager dark clark says there is no present intention of doing so although a small experimental plant may maybe be put up the concentrates will be shipped to the smelters shelters sm elters at salt lake news ely nevada we paid a visit to copper flat last thursday and saw for ourselves where copper ore that will av average better tha than n 30 per cent is being taken from the bottom of a 40 foot foot shaft on the star sta of the west claim high grade ore has also been exposed in a cut about feet north of the shaft where the ledge is shown to be at least fifty feet feed wide on the surface even the flat itself for an areas area of several acres is covered for a depth of from aroi six to eighteen feet with an ore which while low grade gra de could be smelted smelter at a profit in a larger large plant as the cost of mining would be reduced to a minimum the new york parties who have the property under bond are expected here soon when the future of the proposition will probably be determined |
