Show the american mining ining 0 company AMERICAN WEISER IDAHO the american is proud of the fact that it is the f first arst to chronicle the fact that anew a new era of prosperity has opened up for the famous seven devils copper camp a prosperity ty that will be reflected over the whole of washington county As is known to every reader of the american a great strike was made on the foot level of the peacock mine last fall this property is owned by the american mining alining company of helena montana being operated by wm henry harris of new york city and george W boggs of baker city under a ten year lease these gentlemen had under consideration last tall fall a number of plans for the betterment of the mine and means of transportation for their ores but the financial stringency coming on about that time prevented them carrying out their plans mr harris has been in the east the past two months in consultation sul tation with capitalists and has succeeded in interesting several or the wealthiest men of ft wayne indiana in the mine last week harris boggs in company with two representatives of the eastern capitalists visited the mine and made a thorough investigation of the property they returned to weiser wednesday evening accompanied by mr J H allen alien superintendent of the mine and have made known their plans the first move they have made has been the purchase from the stearns steams rogers manufacturing fac turing company of denver of the boat on and seven devils smelter located on the P I 1 N railway about eight miles from weiser this is a complete and up to date plant and has never been run a day it has a capacity of tons every twenty four hours it is the intention to immediately begin the work of increasing the plant to double its capacity as the mine is capable of supplying sufficient ore to keep a plant of that capacity in constant operation the next move is the building of a narrow gauge railway from council to helena to convey the ore from the mine at council it will connect with the P I 1 N and the ore will be transferred from the narrow gauge line to that companas comp anys cars and the low grade ores shipped to salt lake and sumpter the work of securing right of way tor for the road will be commenced immediately ledia telY the company also contemplate the installing of several sawmills along the line ne of their road and will cut and ship the lumber in conversation with mr allen alien the superintendent erin he stated harris beggs and the ft wayne gentlemen were altoun astounded ded when they visited the mine harris boggs had not been there for or nearly three months and they were struck speechless when mr allen alien exhibited to their th astonished gaze more than tons of copper ore that will average fifteen per cent copper mr allen alien states that he has driven into this mass of ore sixty feet and that the greater part of it is of exceedingly high ta grade and will average 60 per cent copper mr allen alien is an old and experienced miner has mined in butte and many other copper camps but he says that the peacock is today the greatest copper mine in america the high grade ore will be sacked and shipped to salt lake the lower to the weiser smelter the force at the mine will be increased right away and ore taken out and placed in the bins and as soon as the roads will permit of hauling the ore will be hauled to council by teams pending the building of the railroad there are several thousand tons at the mine now ready for shipment the length of the railroad will be about fifty miles arrangements will be made as soon as mr allen alien returns to the mine to sink on the property the company has a hoist engine and boilers on the ground with which they can sink to the depth of feet it is the intention to sink a three com apartment part ment shaft shaf t mr allen alien states the company backing harris boggs are possessed of unlimited capital and will spare no means to make the peacock one of the largest copper producers in the united states it is the intention also to operate the smelter as a custom mill and will purchase ores this will be the means of opening up other properties in th the 3 seven devils that are now idle for lack of transportation and means of reducing the ore the benefits to be derived from these contemplated improvements to weiser and washinton washington 0 ton county are almost incalculable and it is to be sincerely hoped the gentlemen will carry their plans through to early completion there is no question of the ore being in the seven devils and it only wanted money and energy to make of it the largest copper producing camp in the united states |
