Show more copper in the mascot I 1 in the last issue of the mining review an extended mention was made of bf the mascot copper company whose extensive eighty two feet of ore after going through this fourth vein measurements disclosed the fact that the al 04 cat R rw s j 4 V MI rua 4 ff A t ms i A A flashlight showing partial view of 30 foot body of solid Sup sulphide hide ore in consolidated tunnel of mascot copper co photo hj by ifill C higgins domain is located in the DOS cabezas range in cochise county arizona prior to the making of this write up the editor of this paper visited the property of the company spending several days in making an exhaustive examination of the surface f ace showings and also of underground development and it was thought at the time that conditions were gone into pretty thoroughly since then however development has brought about such important disclosures that it would seem that the real value of the mascot is but little known or realized at the time of the visit of the witter to DOS cabezas the east crosscut cross cut from the consolidated soli dated tunnel in mascot ground had cut through two immense veins of sulphide ore one of which was thirty feet in width the other being twenty two thir ty five feet from the last named ore body another vein was penetrated and this had been cut into for a distance of four feet since then it has been determined that this third ore shoot was ten feet in width and that the average value was per cent copper with payable values in silver and gold this splendid showing seemingly would be all that anyone could desire but twenty five feet further on another large sulphide vein was encountered and this was found to be aw seventeen feet in width average assays essays showing values of per cent copper 2 ounces silver and in gold to the ton torl east crosscut cross cut was feet in length and that in going this distance it had cuu through ore bodies having a combined F 14 fla V 30 7 7 L U 4 nt two feet this ore is a fine sulphide and a splendid concentrating proposition and which at a very conserva tive estimate will average from 8 to 10 per cent copper and several dollars in gold and silver As a matter of fact some of the ore is of good shipping grade the whole mass however will make money fast and steadily when treated by the companas comp anys proposed concentration works and smelling smelting sm elting eltin plant the preliminary arrangement for the construction of which is being perfected as rapidly as possible another surprise in store but another agreeable surprise was in store for the company and one that has added materially to the value of the mascot c ot property A few days ago a wire was rece received ived from assistant superintendent E A ely to the effect that in the west crosscut fr from am the consolidated tunnel where work was recently started a body of sulphide ore had been penetrated at a point in about forty five feet from the main tunnel this vein had been cut into a distance of four feet one shift without disclosing the width of th the e ledge this ore body was encountered somewhat sooner than anticipated by capt ben W tibby the companas comp anys consulting engineer who had predicted its existence and he was so much pleased with results from exploitation in this direction that he left salt lake a day or two after for the mine as it is anticipated that other hu huh hugh h bodies of sulphide ore will be found in the extension of the west crosscut which is in virgin ground letter from superintendent at the request of the mining review assistant superintendent ely kindly consented to keep this paper posted regarding operations at the mine under unde i r date of ath he writes as follows in ibe the second vein encountered in the consolidated tunnel east gt crosscut cross cut proved to be ten feet wide of sulphide ore f which will assay 16 per cent copper with good gold and silver values the third vein was encountered at a distance of twenty five feet from the second one and proved to be seventeen feet between walls of solid sulphide ore many tons of c commercial om mercial ore were taken out just from the driving the crosscut cross cut through the vein the orein ore in this vein assayed per cent copper 2 ounces silver and in gold this is a beautiful vein indeed and would alone make a very profitable mine A crosscut cross cut was started recently in a westerly direction from a point in the consolidated soli dated tunnel opposite the east crosscut and at a distance of forty five feet from the main tunnel the first vein was encountered the crosscut cross cut is now into this vein four feet and is all in sulphide ore no assays essays have as yet been taken but the ore is of a high grade character very much like that found in the different veins encountered in the east crosscut cross cut from the surface indications this should be as large a vein as any yet opened enlargements to the boarding house and sleeping quarters are now completed for the accommodation of a larger crew of men additions are being made to the power plant at the consolidated tunnel which when completed will add materially to the capacity of the plant some water has recently been encountered in the face of tunnel no 1 and the indications are that this tunnel may be approaching pro aching near the the copper vein flurry causes no alarm the recent flurry in the metal market causes no une uneasiness aIness on the part of officials of the mascot company and perfected arrangements range ments for the extensive development and equipment of its property will be carried out according to schedule on account of the fact that the product of the mines can be handled on a most economical basis and copper made at small cost operations could be carried on upon a most profitable basis even at the lowest point that copper quotations have reached during the past few weeks that copper will reach a higher mark in due time is the opinion of many who are fully in touch with the market and by that time the company expects to have found a place in the producing list another feature of this enterprise is that the gold and silver content of mascot ores as a byproduct is expected to pay a large portion if not all of the cost of production leaving the e copper as clean velvet many heavy utah mining men have become identified with the company as large shareholders and the treasury stock is freely going into the hands of exceptionally strong men |
