Show CLIFTON MORENCI DISTRICT copper era clifton arizona in a way the clifton morenci mining district has been very quiet for the past year but at the same time there is more doing than ever before in the history of the district the companies have largely increased their outputs over last year and are still materially adding to their plants which will still further increase their facilities the camp is now outputting out putting close onto pounds per month and with the increased facilities now being put in it is safe to say that by the first of the year the output will be increased to between and pounds per month such an output is bound to attract the attention of outside capital looking for copper propositions the principal drawback to the dis brict has been the fact that the ore as a class is low grade but this to a certain extent is overcome by the additional fact that it exists in large bodies to make a success in in copper mining in this district requires quire s the investment of considerable capital but when that is forthcoming the com pany banys s future seems assured because the ore bodies seem inexhaustible however the company must be in a position to handle ore in large quantities owing to the fact that ore exists in such large bodies in this district the usual risk of mining is here reduced to a minimum minimum mining in this district is more of a manufacturing proposition the ore is here and can be had in almost any quantity but it is of low grade as a class and must be handled on a big scale in in order to secure the best results that the district will last for ages there can be no doubt and it is also a fact already demonstrated that mining can be done here cheaper than in almost any district in arizona nearly all mines are opened and operated through tunnels doing away with the expense of hoisting but little timbering is required and so far there has been no water to contend with which makes economical work possible taking all things into consideration copper is made here as cheaply as in almost any camp except jerome where the ore is exceedingly high grade with the improved machinery of concentration now being introduced in the district it is possible that many mines will soon be in operation which have heretofore been of too low a grade to pay the building of the S P road f from rom either clifton or globe to the coal and timber fields of colorado which now seems an assured fact will still further tend towards reducing the cost of mining |
