Show SMELTER OF MASON VALLEY MINES CO IS SCHEDULED TO CLOSE DOWN SOON george A kervin general cre ma manager of the mason valley mines lines company announces that the companas comp anys smelter at thompson will close down on or about the first of february reports arts the nevada mining press of the ath instant it is possible that the mason valley mine may continue to operate for a while in which case the flotation mill will run at reduced capacity shipping 6 the concentrates to a utah smelter i this action is taken because of the practical exhaustion ha of the mill ore reserves in the bluestone mine there remains in the mason valley mine an undefined tonnage of mill ore of a low grade but the extent of the deposit is problematical mr kervin also stated that it will be the policy of the company when operations are discontinued to dispose of all its property in nevada the thompson smelter was first blown in in january 1912 and was operated until october 1914 in february of 1917 operations were resumed and continued until shortly after conclusion of the world war after a period of seven years of idleness the plant again became active august 10 1926 the late emmet D boyle former governor of nevada was chosen as general manager of the mines and smelter when it was decided to resume operation and george A kervin former manager 6 of the mammoth smelter of the united states smelting smelling Sm elting company in shasta county calif was appointed smelter superintendent boyle died before operations were resumed and kervin was named general manager in his place the flotation mill at the companas comp anys bluestone mine was increased in capacity reaching a maximum of 1300 tons per day the mill started operations february 27 1926 treating around tons and has run continuously since that date averaging 1100 tons per day besides crude ore and concentrates from its own mines at mason valley the smelter treated custom ores from nevada and california mines during the period from august gust 26 1926 to january 1 1929 ores purchased fron om nevada mines totaled tons california mines hipped dipped tons of ores to the smelter and tons of sulphide ores production of metals by the smelter fro om all of gold sources was as follows ounces ounces of silver pounds of copper the blustone and mason valley mines of the compy company are in the Singa tese range on the west side of mason galley lyon county the nevada copper belt railroad connects the mines with the smelter 15 miles north the 1111 belter elter is a mile and a half from wabuska babuska Wa buska a station on the hazen haen mina branch of the southern pacific railroad |
