truthful lv boast of the possession of a strictly gold producing camp or district by this we mean a section of country where the yellow metal predominated since that timp time how coming to the front as formidable rivals of the big gold producing districts of colorado and california this statement has been verified in the rapid and substantial growth of mercur in the discoveries being made in saw is heard new and still unpainted buildings attest the rapidity and impatience with which the contour of the country is being changed from an almost in penetrable forest into the abiding place of man while the re echoing blasts coming the holding of the plute company include sixteen claims in the mammoth group and five claims in the mascott group adjoining the parent property the consolidated claims are located in the very heart of the district in what is termed the basin near the head of mill creek or more properly speaking the ground is situated on bonanza hill the mascott being the connecting link cw gal e 25 za THE SEVIER MINE AND MILL from canyon and mountain side indicate too plainly that every effort is being made to penetrate into the secret depositories repositories deposit ories of nature in the persistent search for the wall street metal for the gold which enriches the world and in the recovery of which no man is robbed or injured the name of gold mountain is well applied to this richly mineralized section for the district is truly a r mountain noun tain of gold more strictly speaking the mountain is ribbed with gold or gold bearing quartz the alie existence of which is indicated by the strong droppings crop pings which led the untiring prospector to the spot where are deposited untold wealth in the royal metal these keys to natures storehouses are in reality visible evidences evidence of strong parallel veins the forma formation tiou being true fissures in porphyry a condition which almost absolutely insures continuity and permanency as well as largeant large and practically inexhaustible ore bodies on one of these parallel ledges is to be fondd the rich MAMMOTH MINE owned by the piute diute investment company of new york city alfred carr is president of the company B R S penniman is vice president J dowden is secretary and treasurer alfred H is assistant treasurer while james long jr so well and favorably known among the leading mining men of the west is general manager between the mammoth group and th the e exten extensive holdings of the annie laurie company to the east the mammoth ledge is a true fissure in grey and birdseye birds eye porphyry the trend ot the ledge being northerly and southerly sho an east dip at the surface the croon a at the surface cropping of quartz are very stron pronounced pronounce d the which is profusely plastered w wi ith h the ft precious metals casays often being obtained obtain 6 showing the presence of values to the extent efte of in grold gold and several hundred ounces in silver to the ton the ore in its general characteristics is a granulated quartz which is permeated with streaks and patches of manganese which is i fabulously rich rica in its gold contents with enough silver associated to make the rock a good ship shipping pina product for its white metal alone along the apex or cropping of the man moth lode a large larae amount of exploration work has been done in the shape of drifts tunnels and open cuts the outcrop has been traced for a distance of about feet and it is safe to say that in the performance of th is s work thousands of tons of good milling and shipping ore have been piled on the dump or exposed and in place in the various workings in the way of permanent workings two tunnels have been run one of these was formerly designated as the breckenridge tunnel but it is now known as the Oro Chah the tunnel was started to crosscut cross cut the veto vein the ledge being encountered at a distance of 8 85 5 feet from its mouth at this point the lode is is eight feet in width and carries excellent values in milling and shipping ore the m main ain wor workings kinas t on the property however are embraced in what is called the longcross long crosscut cross cut tunnel which is being 11 driven to tap the ledge at a vertical depth of feet the workings are now in the mountain side a distance of 1152 feet and it is believed that within 25 feet more the objective point will be reached 4 A w k wt NO 4 TUNNEL ON THE ANNIE LAURIE vertical shafts on this ground are prohibited on account of the heavy flow of water unless heavy pumps and expensive machinery are utilized but this water in tunnel work is a useful factor in the development of the mine as the flow from the long tunnel turns two overshot over shot water wheels which operate a blower to good advantage the M mammoth ammoth group is about a mile in length and covers the vein for this orstance distance df dr stance while in width including the TM mascott ascott group it takes in nearly feet of the basin and within these sides and end lines there are several strong and well defined veins one of which has just been uncovered in the george S fraction of the mammoth group from which high grade milling ore is now being mined in the mascott a 60 foot incline and 70 foot drift have been run on an ore body which is from two to four feet wide the mineral being a free milling product and averaging about W 20 in o gold old to the ton the SurD surprise rise and bunker hill adjoin the mammoth on the actions and as the mine is gilt edged there can be no doubt as to the ultimate outcome of the enterprise THE SEVIER MINE two miles west of kimberley and on the north slope of baldy mountain is located one of the oldest minas in the district which is known far and wide as the sevier mine the diaco ery was made eight or nine years ago no magnifying glass being necessary to find the ledge as the droppings crop pings are gigantic in their proportions and tower sk ward to such a height that they can be seen from a long along distance like sentinels these mammoth outcrops challenge the attention of the treasure seeker and they not only give promise of what is below the surface but better still they represent fortunes in themselves as these great masses of quartz are nothing more or less than milling ore of value sufficient to pay for treatment on the ground the sevier group contains five patented 0 k LOWER TUNNEL ON THE GOLDEN STAR north and west it is environed on the east by the consolidated annie laurie and on the north b by y the congress t the property is heavily timbered and there is no dearth of cold sparkling water for culinary and other purposes the mammoth property can boast of some very Bub substantial improvements among which may well be mentioned the substantial two story structure which gives room for the business office assay office and dwelling for the manaa management 0 ement and his assistant the structure covers a ground space of 24 by 22 feet adjoining is the two story boardinghouse 28 by 32 feet while nearby is the bunk house with separate bunking and reading room for the men in addition there are stables and barn yards blacksmith shops and other buildings so that it will be seen seem that the company is well fixed for successful oper claims together with two mill sites the property enjoys the distinction of being the first t patented ground in the district and also the first mine to be equipped with a mill of its own the company is incorporated for shares of a par value of 5 a share charlie lammersdorf Lam president and manager being the largest stockholder with about shares to his credit the formation like the balance of the district is porphyry the veins being true fissures with a northerly and southerly strike on the sevier group there are two parallel ledges a bout about feet apart the outcrop on oil which vary from ten to thirty feet in width and carry values averaging about 12 in free milling gold to the ton the upper tunnel has been driven for some distance on a fine and large body of good ore the main workings however being I 1 the mill tunnel which has haa penetrated the precipitous mountain for a distance of 1200 feet the face having a vertical depth of about 1000 feet below the surface and this tunnel has baen driven this entire distance on a magnificent body of gold bearing quartz some of which runs into the ounces in the yellow metal and it is estimated that in these workings and on the big dump enough ore is blocked out and exposed to keep a large mill in constant operation for years to come on what is called the back vein which parallels the main ledge a crosscut cross cut tunnel has been run for a distance of feet cutting the ore bodies at which point a and covering feet have been run a five foot zone of ore which shows values by fire tests of from 12 to 14 a ton the workings exposing so much pay rock that it is difficult to even estimate the tonnage crystallized quartz is one of the ore characters to be found in this bonanza much of which goes thirty ounces in gold to the ton before the erection of the mill shipments were made to the salt lake samplers which netted the company a ton after deducting all expenses and it is stated that there is a large amount of this class of ore in the dump mixed with many thousands of tons of good milling alne mineral al the ten stamp log mill a picture of which embellishes this article was installed several years ago and has hag been successfully operated but it has been found that it is too small in its capacity for the size of the mine the indications being bein that in the near future a larger plant will be erected the property of the company is equipped with comfortable dwelling houses boarding and bunk houses assay office blacksmith shops etc there being an abundance of timber and good water on the ground for all necessary purposes litigation and pending sales bales have retarded the growth and advancement 0 of f the sevier for several beers yews but i ij is believed that it will wili not be ion long now before it will make an enviable record a 3 a heavy producer and dividend payer the miller mine owned by the kimberley syndicate joins the sevier oil ahe southwest and extensive exploration is the order of the day on this valuable ground the general connor another prospective bonanza joins the sevier on the west while on the north is the famed holland group a piece of property which is doubtless des destined tined to cause a furore in mining circles in that section at no distant day THE ANNIE LAURIE at the present time the annie laurie is what might well termed the observer of all observers this mammoth consolidation as aa is well known was but recently acquired by the kimberley syndicate of sharon pa and the consumption of the deal has resulted in the inauguration of work in various directions such as will soon place the camp in the front ranks as one of the greatest gold producing sections of the west for good and sufficient c ae nt reasons the management of the annie laurie is reticent as to the physical condition of the property but sufficient is CONTINUED TO PAGE NINE the fissure veins of gold mountain FROM PAGE SEVEN known of its capabilities in the way of extensive ore deposits to justify the heavy expenditure pend iture now being made by the company in in the way of makino making 0 numerous substantial improvements prove ments preparatory to carrying on mining operations on a large scale since assuming charte charge of the annie laurie the company has constructed two large bo boarding beardino ardino and bunk houses for its employees plo it is now putting up a mill with a daily capacity of tons which will utilize the cyanide process reinforced by amalgamation in addition to which a double track tram 1800 feet in length is being built to connect with the mill from no 4 tunnel the motive power for the operation of the mill and works will be electricity which is to be generated t at the new power plant now in in course of erection on fish creek over the divide five miles from the this plant will furnish the equivalent of horse power and in addition to the utilization of the current for power purposes at the mill and mines will be employed in lighting t and heating t the lodore Lod lodge cre a fine two story edifice erected above the mill and the town of kimberley for the sole use of the officials and guests of the company in the way of timber reserves and water for power and culinary and domestic purposes the company can boast of ample possessions and judging 0 from a peep behind the scenes there can be no doubt but that the annie laurie will take rank during the coming year as one of the big bonanza propositions of the great west THE GOLDEN STAR As a shipper of high grade ore the golden star or the blue bird as the mine is more popularly known is the pride of the district and the property is credited with a production of in the yellow metal and in the extraction of this amount larole large 7 zons zonas of a good grade 1 of |
