Show UTAH EXHIBITS AT RENOS BIG FAIR CALL FORTH complimentary NOTICE reno nevadas great fair and industrial exhibition for which preparations have been under way for a year was thrown open to the public saturday last and will continue through the greater portion of july in a special dispatch to one of the local papers splendid contribution to t the h exhibit is outlined in the following recital I 1 although utah was somewhat orne what late iri in reaching a decision to participate in the nevada transco transcontinental antin highways exposition it is not apparent in the display which is one one of the largest and best on the exposition grounds the utah exhibit occupies occupied S one third of the floor space of the automobile to mobile palace the early residents of utah were pioneers in irrigation in the west and the utah exhibit has not failed to show the advantages of carrying water to the land for tho those se who study the exhibit and its arrangement cabi can trace the history of the beehive state from the time it was first settled by the mormon ion pioneers up to the present day john S earley executive secretary of the utah manufacturers facture rs association is in charge of the utah exhibit he ha has s been assisted here by E W bowling the scenic effects have been done b by joseph gill of salt lake and the electrical work by E TL eardley of salt lake arrangement of exhibit exhibit is located in the south portion of the automotive palace and the exhibitors include the agricultural and horticultural departments of the state the utah mental hospital the utah industrial school and some fifty six individual exhibitors over the entrance to the space is a huge electrically lighted arch at the top of which is the great seal of the state done in gold the seal standing out in relief the beehive typical of industry and the states greatest advertising asset has apro a prominent place directly behind the entrance arch but at the fhe extreme south end of the exhibit is a large painting of great salt lake showing bird and antelope islands in the foreground is a pyramid that runs twenty feet in the air and this pyramid from the base to the top depicts the growth of the state from the day of the arrival of brigham young and his band of pioneers and it shows every industry of the commonwealth ending with its scenic playgrounds of cedar breaks zion park and bryce canyon at the base is the virgin lundhigh lan land dhigh high above the lake and distant from water then is shown the irrigation the prospering farms and orchards and then come the big canneries mining has the next rung on the pyramid and then follow the other manufactory manufactories manu factories es that began to spring 6 up after the mining industry became a success power projects are next shown and then the oil fields the beet sugar growing and sugar b mills at the top of the pyramid is the great white throne stupendous scenic part of the utah parks and surrounding this throne and immediately im below it are miniature views views 6 of cedar breaks bryce canyon zion national park and kaibab forest over the booths which house the various exhibits are transparent paintings of the scenic wonders of utah there is not a product grown or manufactured or mined ill in utah that is not contained in in the exhibit there are more beautiful exhibits of grains and grasses and one wonders how they can be arranged so artistically there are numerous exhibits of flour and cereals vegetables fresh dried and canned nuts sugar salt beverages candy and crackers mining Indu importance shown the exhibit is not confined to any one section of utah for fol the products of the utah iron mines are on hand the new oil wells are made known through an exhibit there is a 61 b 1 g pyramid of coal one lump weighing more than a ton and the mining machinery industry of the st state ate is well r represented ep re mr earley and mr bowling have not depended on the industries that have been established for years but they are arc showing everything that the beehive state does and one of the exhibits that is attracting attention is the radio loudspeaker display for utah is one of the largest manufacturers of loudspeaker loud speaker apparatus in the country utah is a brick and tile manufacturer too and this industry gets a place in the display furnishings of the utah display have excited no little comment and one is given a surprise when he is informed that all of the furniture used to decorate and for the comfort of the visitors was made by the inmates of the utah home for the feeble minded the state industrial school also has a creditable exhibit including sewing and fancywork fancy work as well as knitting by the girls and metal and ana woodwork by the boys one can hardly visit the utah display without the comment that utah is truly a wonderful state during the exposition period those in charge are planning for a series of lectures on the scenic beauties of the beehive state and these will be illustrated by views it is freely predicted here that hund hundreds reds of those who come to reno for the exposition by automobile after seeing the utah exhibit will continue on to that state to see the wonders offered there for the tourist |
