operation rate of speed is f feet beet a minute f for or the present operating depth of f feet acet at a depth of feet this speed will be increased to 1000 feet a minute loading and unloading devices are of the standard skip and pocket type safety devices electric drive etc safety devices of both the electrical and mechanical type prevent overloading over speeding and over winding of the skip A afie pneumatic mati bu buffer affer placed at the top of the shaft compartment will preclude injury in cage or skip if when running I 1 at full speed the cage can be stopped in five seconds full speed can be attained in the same time the engine drive pulley or sheave is erected at the center and parallel to the long distance of the shaft which has been sunk with the manway in the center and the two hoisting compartments on the outside the distance between the center of the two hoist compartments equals eight feet corresponding to the diameter of the bollen pulley ropes from the skip and counterbalance pass gass through holes drilled in the top of the shaft up to the hoist room a distance of sixteen feet the bollen sheave is driven by dir direct act current motors geared to the sheave ward leonard control is used operating controls of the hoist are all of the electric type and can be placed at convenient points any distance from the hoist room or on the moving cage the hoist room is coated and hermetically sealed to exclude all dust blower ventilation has been provided to maintain the cool even requisite for economical operation of the motors marvelous ore developments justify the improvements the park utah ore development precedes expenditures for equipment before making ambitious installations ore bodies must justify by their size and values outlays for machinery A cursory study of the park utah mine maps particularly the one covering covering 6 the new west ore bodies below the 1500 or ontario no 2 drain tunnel should convince anyone that the company is amply justified for the installation of a new pumping unit last fall and the bollen hoist this winter the west ore body is associated with the same fissure system as the east ore body 2000 feet east sinking into the lower weber quartzite and the upper limestone of mississippian age on the west ore body which on the 1500 level attained a length of feet and an average width of twenty feet has been attended with astounding results nine hundred feet of solid ore on the 1650 level this same ore body has been followed for a distance of feet in solid ore and the western limit has not been reached at the last report from the mine the heading was still entirely in ore of unknown width in a crosscut made feet west of the point where the shoot begins sixty five feet of shipping ore has been exposed four hundred and fifty feet west of the point of beginning the ore body was crosscut for fifty five feet no I 1 other crosscuts cross cuts have been made so that the extent of the is not yet definitely known however it I 1 is s significant that the dimensions are greatly in excess of the dimensions on the 1500 level I 1 and also that the ore on th the 1650 extends far to the west of that on the 1500 on the 1800 level feet below the 1500 level on the dip of the vein exploration has not been carried to the point that it has on the 1650 ore has been followed continuously for a distance of feet where crosscut th ohp e deposit measures from twenty two to twenty five feet wide development on the 1800 must be guided by the necessity of draining the ore above to allow cheap and easy mining one years draining has thoroughly de watered and dried all ore on the horizons above the 1800 level during the last sixty days there has been a noticeable decrease of water from the 1800 level and more rapid opening up of this horizon has consequently been practical but 0 o one na un unit lt of the three units of the pumping plant capable of handling 2700 gallons each minute is being operated what new development is disclosing pumping costs at the park utah unit average less than 25 cents a ton of ore extracted according to officials of the company this condition with the favorable size of the deposit operate for the extremely low mining costs prevailing at the park utah the question as to whether ore values would diminish or increase in the park utah mine with depth has been a speculation of wide interest among mining men development to date proves that silver values decline with depth but this loss is more than offset by the material increase in gold lead and zinc since the ore development on the 1650 and 1800 levels has been confined up to the present solely to development thorough sampling of the deposit has as of course been impossible however average assays essays of car samples taken over a length of feet of the ore body on the 1650 level for a width of ten feet gave of per cent lead per cent zinc 85 ounces of silver to the ton 4 in gold and 2 per cent copper As to the extent of the deposit below the 1800 level nothing is known by company officials except that beneath the sills the ore is stronger strong ef and better than it was under the sills on the 1500 level production from the west ore body will be regulated by y the trend of metal prices 7 at present the company is planning to ship up tp to tons daily from this area past year one of great achievement the year 1926 was a period of significant attai attainments a for the park utah consolidated mines company the theton nage mark marketed e ted was the greatest in the companas comp anys tw two 0 and one half years of existence silver production amounted to more than ounces making the company for far thie the second year in succession the largest silver producing corni pany in the united states Z greatest 13 silver producing state stafe both ore tonnage and metal output of mines minas in inthe ae the western end of the companas comp anys ground were the largest larg t m in forty years of steady activity and what is even more im nn por tant park utah consolidated ore reserves indicate that this record can be either maintained or excelled during the current year |
