Mr Kirkham's appeal was made rn n response to the local posts post's request for suggestions as to the most con con- concrete concrete con concrete crete constructive worthwhile civic betterment project which it might car car- carry carry car carry ry out for Ear this year So strongly was the appeal put and so urgent the apparent need for Ear im- im immediate immediate im immediate mediate action that the post decided to get to work on it at once and not wait for Ear other suggestions which night be made during Community Service Week Weck February 12 to 22 which is being sponsored by the Utah The post will organize the troops and furnish their leaders and if found necessary will turn their clubrooms club rooms over to them for a meeting place On- On Only Only On Only ly boys not out Early in 1923 in a certain city city of of bout about population all the civic leaders agreed that a certain project should be put over oer Efforts to launch a campaign failed ailed at the outset not get together the civic clubs could not agree Among the citizens was a young oung veteran who had served overseas with all types of oE Americans and was an ardent Legionnaire He called a spec special ial meeting of oE his post That brought t together veterans from fron every strata of oE the community The following day the Legion commander announced d that the post would be glad to lead the drive if all other organizations would cooperate A week later the funds had been raised everybody wa was friendly with every everybody ody else a spirit of oE cooperation like that of the war
