Show geological SURVEY appreciative addressing himself to the mineral industry george otis smith director of the geological survey at washington D C ex expresses presse s the surveys appreciation of the assistance given it by the mining fraternity in the past as follows in the interest of more efficient ordination coordination co of government work on mineral statistics president coolidge has transferred the bureau of mines mine sand and the division of mineral mancra resources of the united states geological survey from the department of the interior to the department of commerce the work of the division of mineral resources will be continued with little or no change in person personnel fiel or policy by a division of the bureau of mines although I 1 regret that my official contacts with the mineral industry will be fewer in number by redson reason of this change I 1 am in hearty sympathy with the object to be attained by the transfer it gives me pleasure to express my sincere appreciation of the cordial spirit of operation cooperation co that has been ev en tended to the geological survey by the man many y bus busy y men engaged in this industry during the 43 years in which the survey has been collecting mineral statistics I 1 can wish the new administration of this important work no better fortune than a continuance of the same operative cooperative co spirit a and ild I 1 bespeak for the department of commerce and the bureau of mines the same wholehearted whole hearted response to them that has been accorded to the department of the interior and the geological survey although this phase of the geological surveys work now ceases the survey will keep in touch with the mineral industry through its geologic investigations and there will be no change in its desire to serve the industry in any way possible |
