Show NEW OIL FIELD IN SOUTHEAST ARIZONA ATTRACTS ATTENTION OF LOCAL OIL MEN local interest attaches to an oil excitement that has been started in a new field between bowie and wilcox in the extreme southeastern portion of arizona col C P tasker for himself and associates is reported to have secured considerable territory in the new field and the money has all been raised with which to prospect and develop the holdings R T dennis another salt lake oil man has also become interested and in a dispatch to colonel tasker the other day mr dennis reported that he had a standard rig on the way from los angeles to the field into whid which many oil operators geologists and experts were pouring from all directions according to arizona newspaper reports the excitement is the result of oil having been found in a water well sunk by the railroad company at wilcox a few years ago the story is that water was developed in this well at a depth of thirty five feet but the railroad company decided to keep on sinking in the hope that a better flow would ibe be secured the well was put down to a depth of feet and a sand containing gas and a showing of oil was entered at feet the well was shot at feet though no water was developed below the first strata encountered it is declared that the water pumped into the railroad tanks for the purpose of supplying locomotive boilers showed a scum of oil which it was found necessary to skim off before using the water A few months ago when this condition became known oil hounds began to investigate with the result that it is now believed that all the country for miles in the vicinity of wilcox and on to bowie more than twenty miles to the east overlies over lies a potential oil field which it now is proposed to develop |
