Show GETTING READY TO ENTERTAIN THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE NEXT SUMMER officers of the utah section of the fahe american institute of mining and metallurgical engineers were elected and plans outlined for the annual summer convention of the national association which will be held in salt lake at the hotel utah august 31 to september 4 at the annual meeting of the organization held at the newhouse hotel thursday evening last week the newly elected officers include J C dick chairman who was elected to succeed robert M lewis otto herres vice chairman and C T van winkle secretary this is the third consecutive time that mr van winkle has been elected to this position the meeting was in the form of a banquet and was held in the ballroom of the hotel duncan macvichie local mining engineer read a paper on the iron deposits of utah C M brown of salt lake was the other speaker he spoke on the welfare methods of the utah copper company nearly members were in attendance the summer convention of the national association will bring from to mining engineers from all sections of the united states to salt lake the convention will open on monday august 31 this day will be taken up tip with registration and two technical meetings which will be held in the morning and evening during the afternoon a scenic trip will be made on tuesday september 1 the members will visit the mines at bingham and the plants and smelters shelters sm elters at magna arthur and garfield on wednesday trips will be made to the smelters shelters sm elters at murray and midvale and the blast furnaces at ironton A scenic trip will also be made up american fork canyon in the evening the banquet will be held at the hotel utah the last day of the convention will be taken up by trips either to park city gintic tintic or tooele thoele this will be the second time that the association has held its meeting in salt lake city as the members gathered herein here in 1914 |
