Show MINING AT ASPEN COLORADO RAPIDLY MOVING TO THE FRONT mining developments in aspen and the surrounding district during the past winter have been progressing to an extent per cent greater than in many years according to R P sharpe mining engineer and general manager for the aspen smelting smelling Sm elting company and the continental divide development Develop met company operating extensively in that rich colorado silver district the aspen smelting smelling Sm elting company is operating the cowenhoven tunnel group of mines and the smuggler and durant groups said mr sharpe lead silver ores are being shipped sh lapped to the A S R smelter at leadville and our zinc lead ores to the U S smelting smelling company at midvale utah and the sherwin williams paint company at Coffe coffeyville kansas our lower grade lead silver ores are concentrated in smuggler lead mill and from three to five cars of concentrates a week are being shipped to leadville about april 1 we will be treating all our middle grade and low grade ores in our new selective flotation mill of fifty tons daily capacity in our new plant which is nearly completed at aspen this plant plan twill will be doubled in capacity later on b by Y the simple p addition of ofa another machinery unit for which our present buildings have been planned we have installed an airlift plant at the mollie gibson shaft that will lower the water level down to the foot level where we will install a permanent pumping stati station on when our new mill gets under way we will be one of the largest producers of silver lead and zinc in the state and ample ore is in sight for months of operations not to mention the new ore bodies we will open up the continental divide development 1 is operating the mcveigh property in aspen watering unwavering un the shaft and preparing to develop the mine this company owns a number of other valuable properties in the nei neighborhood gabor andis and is reaching out for additional acreage with special interest in properties bearing lead and zinc working connection has been formed with two of the largest operating corporations in utah development is being pushed under the direction of D P a mining geologist whose geologic maps of bf the aspen district years ago were accepted by the U S geological survey we hope in the future to so perfect our operating units that only bar silver pig lead and slab zinc will have to be shipped out of aspen we have all the necessary natural facilities in the aspen aslen district for reducing the various ores to the pure metallic state and are planning and building to that end |
