Show BURRITT SAND IS NEW NAME PROPOSED FOR OIL FORMATION now that southwestern wyoming is beginning to show signs agns of becoming an active factor in the production of crude petroleum in wyoming geologists and oil producers are beginning to give the territory more attention and a closer study is being made of the different formations of that section says the casper oil index of the so far the pay found in the best wells seems to be coming from streaks of broken sand found in the lime so far as known this formation has not been given an official name and one of the more important producers who recently returned to casper from a trip to LaBarg LaBarge eind and other districts in southwestern wyoming has suggested to the index that the formation be named the burritt sand in honor of A G burritt who it is claimed has perhaps done more to bring about the present in interest in that locality than any other single individual mr burritt was first attracted to the labarge district in in 1912 having come to that territory from warren pa he carefully worked out the geology of the country he had great Y faith in it talked it and worked incessantly to get others interested he is now superintendent of the wyota oil company and its subsidiary the beneficial oil company and is just beginning to be in a position where he will reap financial rewards for his years 0 of service all casper people who have met with it speak in terms 0 of highest praise of his work his willing willingness ness to give out information and the fine spirit of cooperation which he is constantly manifesting at all times in an effort to bring in new capital and further to develop the district it is therefore with pleasure that this paper receives afie suz suggestion and passes it on to the industry with the hope that the name will be adopted officially and that the burritt sand will be added to the geological nomenclature ot of wyoming |
