| Show NEW PROCESS OF REFINING LIQUID METAL on october a patent was issued to llewellyn jones of muncie ind no on a process for refining liquid metal from furnaces according to the author the patent is a process for the reduction of elements contaminating molten metals this work is accomplished by the aid of a small furnace in which the slag b is made this removes the izing b gases the vessel is then filled with this molten slag placing the vessel in line with the pouring spout of the furnace the metal on being tapped pours into the vessel bessei encountering a fire clay spiral perforated ring which arrests the flow and permits the molten metal to spray down through the entrapped slabs thus producing a refined metal at one operation by this process any aay desired results may be obtained by the use of different slag formations and it does away with the use of scavengers in direct contact with the metal which are at times retained and prove injurious |
