Show GOLDTOWN DISTRICT GEOLOGY comparison WITH RANDSBURG by E M martin goldtown Gold town calif feb 10 the contradistinction between goldtown Gold town and randsburg brandsburg Rands burg the the two b great gold and silver minin mining 6 districts of california is visible in the b geological 1 CT formations of the different sections of both camps the geology of the rand district as taken from the geological map of the state of california californi a and issued by the state mining bureau shows part of the district as volcanic comprising b lavas tuffs and estites also including basales and small amounts of rhyolite precambrian pre cambrian consisting 6 of gneiss mica mica and hornblende predominate in the geological elements of the balance of the district tungsten and gold are found in the rand in quartz filled veins in the granites goranites gra in well defined fissures customarily mixed more or less with quartz C formations discussed the geological formations in the mines surrounding goldtown Gold town on the yellow dog standard gold karnia karma queen esther double standard and yellow do dog extension are apparently related to the soledad butte w which aich rises out of the plain at an altitude of feet above sea level other buttes also rise both east and west geologists believe that here are the granites goranites gra underlying the mountains in their eastward extensions although related to the soledad the subsequent volcanic eruptions in the district were vere those established by the pegmatite flows of the old magma the great mass of soledad butte and its outlying hills consists of acidic rhyolite porphyry investigation has proven that the massive dikes a are re crushed rhyolite porphyries squeezed into masses of porphyry and adjacent granite the rhyolite porphyry on the standard gold mine and on nearly all the hills surrounding goldtown Gold town evidently flowed into its present locations at no greatly elevated temperature volcanic action in goldtown Gold town where the porphyry has been revealed at considerable distances from the surface the are not usually well developed and the ground mass shows less alteration to the unchanged by the formation af the secondary enrichment of 1 minerals except the introduction of silica the soledad was an active volcano as proven by the remnants of the ash cone lying around the base of the mountain especially on the west side rhyolite eruptions andesite flows porphyry faulting against faces are evident throughout the entire district the veins are of the true fissure type some forty feet and more from wall to wall especially in the yellow dog karma and standard gold properties where the rich pay is usually found in well defined shoots from four to fifteen feet in width yellow dog conditions unusual the geological b conditions are unusual in the yellow dog mine in the matter of the gold values found in the wall rocks of the big fissure it has usually been regarded in this district that the walls while carrying an appreciable amount of 11 gold 1 old have never been classed as spectacular in fact but few cases are known in this section where the walls carried sufficient values to stand milling and mining costs it is worthy of M mention that the present development while not in the ore shoot is improving as the work progresses gr esses the shaft is now below the foot level and excellent bannings pann ings have been obtainable from feet down bunches of quartz carrying high values are beginning to break into the shaft indicative of the widening of the ore zone drifts are being extended into the mineralized formation north and south on each level standard gold tunnel nears objective the standard gold crosscut cross cut tunnel is now in over feet and entering what is believed to be the junction of the golden carrier mill assay and exposed treasure veins systems it is the belief of manager W H tharpe that the flattening out of these veins from a pitch of from 60 to 65 degrees to a dip of about 22 deol degrees 6 rees at an incline depth of feet will result in the finding of an immense body of ore lying close to the giant granite of the exposed trea treasure sure vein vein |
