Show MINING assessment SITUATION now that the efforts to have congress b provide for the suspension of assessment work on mining claims for 1920 and 1921 have failed mining claim owners who wish to hold and protect their properties should have had their 1920 work done by july 1st ast or they should at least be in actual possession and at work if the claim jumper is to be legally headed off if the work for 1920 has been completed it would be wise to file notice to that effect with the county recorder or with the district recorder if there is one without delay or if the work for 1920 is still in process of being performed the notice of completion should be filed just as soon as the work is finished and again as the relief measure passed by congress last december only provided for an extension of six months in which to do the 1920 work the time provided by law for the performance of 1921 assessment work was not extended it will be necessary to do this years work by december or as stated above the claim owner must be in possession and working when the year expires in other words the old rule prevails now and will prevail until congress makes a change the sentiment in metal mining regions evidently is practically unanimous that the annual al assessment work period should be changed from froal jan T uary to december so as to make the assessment i period pe begin with july and end with june if the Prevail prevailing ailin inq method of holding mining claims is to remain rema b a feature of the count rys mining laws that is that im worth of work shall be performed perform led td each year on each clan claim until patent has been acquired and claim owners wish to change the fiscal period they should see to it that action favorable to their wishes is taken by congress before the present year expires A general revision of the count rys mining laws is to receive early attention at the hands of congress and it is most likely that whatever is done for the benefit of metal mining will all be incorporated in the newy new revised statutes the features of which were presented in an article taken from the engineering mining journal and published in our last issue the proposed new law will be printed in full in our next issue if possible |
