Show SALE OF THE KEANE WONDER advices advises have been received telling of the taking over of the keane wonder mine in the death valley region a property that was a sensation in western mining circles some ten or twelve years ago and which although idle for some time is finely equipped with up to date machinery and ready for immediate resumption of operations the bonanza of tonopah To nevada in making mention of this property and its transfer says the keane wonder which has produced has been sold to a new york syndicate which will take possession immediately and arrange to resume work on this estate which is said to have the largest and most substantial body of low grade gold ore in the state the sale was made by tim connolly and J W dunfee two of the best known goldfield operators the keane wonder was one of the best assets of the defunct state bank and trust company and was taken by D mackenzie as part settlement of his claim against the bank and was operated under direction of homer wilson the mine suspended two years ago and remained idle ever since the estate includes a 20 stamp mill situated feet above sea level in death valley and the mine is a mile distant and 1800 feet higher connected by means of an aerial tramway which is almost new and ready for service at one time the mine was ore that averaged 16 a ton but at the present it is figured that a fair run of the mine would be which leaves a good margin for the operating company the buyers are represented by irwin chandler of new york and J P williams the latter is well known in nevada as one who was identified with development of the goldfield gold mountain district leading to the construction of the big mill at bonnie clare after the keane wonder was under the management of homer wilson a series of lawsuits were entered which resulted in tying up the mine which however remained in charge of tim connolly as representative of the owners the plant is operated by fuel oil engines which actuate electric generators supplying light to the whole workings besides operating an ice plant which was deemed an essential element of the equipment owing to the intense heat in summer the option taken up by the new york underwriters was secured last october and the sale was made after some of the leading engineers made exhaustive examinations checking the statements of the selling agents |
