Show MINERAL RESOURCES OF YAVAPAI COUNTY by F W bower prescott ariz march 8 but few people comprehend the magnitude of the mineral resources of yavapai county so extensive are the mineralized areas that it is practically impossible for anyone to keep track of the development work that is in progress the great copper belt beginning at jerome on the north and extending for one hundred miles southward to new river is rapidly forging to the front on account of the numerous companies that are spending money freely in development work the two big copper mines at jerome at the present time lead all other copper properties in the county but there is a possibility and a strong one too that there will be other coppers just as large and as rich along this great belt even to the kay which already is hitting bitting a big stride toward one of the real big copper mines of the state the silver situation the silver situation is certain to attract big capital to the several camps the next few months for there are many old time silver properties that were worked years ago and have since been forgotten that can be resurrected with but little capital and made to pay again of these there could be mentioned thirty or forty old producers that are scattered from groom creek south of this city to the tip top mine which is in the neighborhood of seventy miles south of prescott all along this great mineralized erali zed belt are to be found scores of really very promising silver gold prospects that have been partly developed or held in many cases by location work only two mines may be selected out of the many as examples of what new capital coupled with good management and the newer methods of mill treatment can accomplish com they are the silver belt two miles west of humboldt and the monte cristo on groom creek eight miles south of prescott both are old silver gold lead properties and are in camps ten miles apart on parallel vein systems the silver belt mine it is estimated that the silver belt mine has produced well over from old workings by former owners the mine is now owned and is being developed by a progressive company which has sunk an old shaft to a depth of feet following the main ore body at that depth the vein matter is eight feet wide with four and one half feet of milling and shipping ore the high grade will run from to ounces silver and 20 per cent lead and the milling grade goes from 20 to 40 per ton A conference of the principal stockholders of the company is being held in san francisco this week to pass upon the question of erecting a 50 ton flotation mill at the mine at once the consulting engineer is H H burt the president john J mahoney of san fran cisco and the general manager ben rybon of prescott A remarkably rich piece of native silver ore was brought to the city recently from this mine taken from a new strike on the foot level the ore will average about a ton A carload shipment of the high grade is being made and it is expected to net the company from to for the carload the monte cristo the monte cristo has about the same record for production in the old days as the silver belt the mine has several old shafts and tunnels most of the work being out of repair W H worthington a mining engineer took over the property a short time ago and began a systematic cleaning up of the old works his first shipment of five tons of ore averaged from 2000 to ounces of silver he has a 15 ton flotation mill completed and ready to run on several thousand tons of old and dump ore that will make a mill head of 15 to 30 a ton this first mill unit will pay for all the future mine development and lay away a good dividend reserve besides the main body of ore is from four to eight feet in ia width these old silver properties are extremely attractive just at the present time for three reasons the high price of the metal new oil flotation process for the sulphide ores and the improved methods of of the oxidized ores of particular value is the flotation process for most of the old mines have worked out the surface or oxidized ores the old workings being down to the water level where the sulphide ores begin south of and adjoining the silver belt mine is the anderson birch silver mine which has been developed entirely from the ore taken out of workings not lower than feet three carloads from this mine in december last netted the owners better than A small flotation mill treats the lower grade ore as taken from the mine this is one of the big silver mines of the county |
